  1. Thats your push rods at the bottom the valves are the bits at the top fitted with springs

They are all now closed after you have removed the rockers so you can now fill it with derv through the spark plug holes

  2. Once the derv gets past the piston rings it will hit the sump and mix with the oil to raise the level and you may find it pours out of the push rod holes

  3. Zed

    Zed Gradually getting grumpier

There's gonna be a mess one way or another. Thought I'd better wait until you filled it with diesel before I mentioned that...

  4. It's my garage and ill make a mess if I want, he shouts to the missus!!! Cool. Now all I have to do is wait. What the next job. Clean these nasty looking f*ckers?!?

I did this lastyear with diesel on an old Zastava 750 (google it!) that was rescued from a Serbian car wash, it had been sitting 12 years and was seized solid, got it running and then sold it on :)

I have faith, It will work!

  6. Valves are at the top. The heads of the stems are the small circles in the middle of the 4 springs. Best not to try moving them untill you ve freed the engine and then get the piston to BDC before tapping and I do mean tap. If you do it at TDC there's a chance of holing the piston and/or bending the valve stem. That d be a whole new world of woe. :)

  7. Well I got it to move. 15mm on the crank lol. I'm I right in thinking its getting there just need to give the diesel more time to do its magic???

  8. Yeah dont rush it

  9. Yeah don't rush it is not my strong point. I'm using the good old doubled up spanner technic. Should I try a bigger bar or just be patient?!

  10. stick them in the dishwasher ;)
or soak them the petrol and scrub with a stiff brush (usual h&s precautions etc)

  11. Wait a bit longer dude... she's gonna need a bit of time if she's been sat for 15 year :)

You need to give it 4/5 days really :)

  12. I know your right but I'm not a patient person. Luckily I do not have a bigger bar so I will have to wait. I topped up the diesel as I've been taking bit off the engine and spilled a bit. Baby steps and all that

  13. Right. Managed to get the heads and pots of. Still not shifting. Am I right in the thinking the crank is seized or there some thing fallen in there and got stuck?!?

  14. If you've got this far, split the case and see what you find.
As you undo the bolts to the case try turning the crank every bolt. If its tight and you losen a bolt it becomes loose your problem will be in the area of that bolt.
There's not much inside the case so any probs should be obvious.

  16. Piston rings will have rusted themselves to the barrels.... unless it has a ton of water in it, then it's any persons guess to what you'll find!! :)

  17. For the barrels off already and there about 15mm of movement.

  18. :TTIWWP:

  19. Hang on a sec.... is there a dizzy fitted?? If there isn't I bet the drive shaft has lifted and jammed the crank!!

  20. No dizzy fitted. I bloody hope that's the problem. How do I check?
