Just for the sake of conversation.

I mean there are type 4 engines. upright engines, Porsche and even diesel lumps go in. To my knowledge most non vw and diesel lumps need a adaptor plate. and most of them are much of a muchness when it comes to reliabilty. But I wondered what people actually know about the practicalitys of them?

Which engine would you have and why?

  5. If I didn't have a type 4, then I'd have a TDi... still vw though :)

Scooby for me ive got a bell housing not adapter plate
So far very reliable and great on fuel
Due to mine being a daily its working out great for me

  7. Same here - I'd stick a decent VW diesel in.

  8. I may need to pick your brains (and steel your ideas) as i've just picked up and impreza with 75k on the clock to rape for its engine for a homebrew conversion :)

I would love to hear one with an exhaust that sounds something like a n og bay exhaust!

Surely then it'd sound something like an og bay?

  16. So far as i have worked out to date (still learning) all the subaru engines seem the same flat 4 but with different cc's the 2l the 2.2l and the 2.5l
the 2.2 is supposed to be the best but hard to come by as they are snapped up for airplanes, the 2l is good though and generally poky enough.

I would quite like to fit a stock exhaust to mine but i dont know if it would work?

Thanks mate, i need loads of pics! is there details in your show us your ride thread?

The 2.2 is relatively hard to come by, the 2.0 and 2.5 much easier.
My 2.0 goes really well, the 2.5 is unbelievably quick.

    No its not

Rjes web site is where i got all my info from and .parts.required

  19. Yeah i've been reading up on there, and VWKD, both v handy for info! Rjes site doesn't seem to have been updated in quite a while though and i dont think he's making his sumps or exhausts yet which is a shame.
