He does make.exhausts 650 quid in stainles.mine sounds amazing Sump .. im Down one spline on the back.with normal sump and ive not had a problem Made a box as a scoop with rad under van floor works.fine for.me
Which rad and fan (s)? are you using? i've read an alfa one fits nicely (although i dont actually know which alfa its from)
Id love a Scooby conversion but I love the sound of the og engine way too much to swap it! quirky over reliability for me
Forgive my ignorance but what does a "Scooby conversion" actually mean? I know it's putting in a modern water cooled engine but where does the term come from?
If I could make the VRS with DSG work in a bay I would do. The gearbox is much awesomeness, 6 speed flappy paddles with seamless shift. 170bhp wouldn't be enough for a performance bay though so I'd probably look to chip it up to 220hp. I was watching the guy in Sweden who was doing a single can resto, I reckon you could do full scooby running gear box and all with the engine sat behind the can. Mid engine two seater rear wheel drive. Scooby boxer diesel looks very appealing too. I'm liking type 4 right now as I can actually build them, don't think I'll ever be clever enough to rebuild a scooby. A mate of mine used to have an Alfa engine in his t25 - it went like stink
I'm surprised that Vw haven't made a modern engine based on one of their existing Diesels that just slots into our buses, surely there's a market for them, or even a upgraded modern aircooled version based on the old engine but with more reliable up to date engineering
Quad cam is also the one you're more likely to have an issue with. 2 litre is where it's at, right blend of performance, mileage and reliability. I'm guessing the likes of fellows don't source ropey motors, I've been looking at scooby eBay buys and the quad cam always seems to be the one with the knackered engine. Find a good one though and you'll have a rocket! I found a guy locally who is importing refurbished engines directly from Japan, they come in at about £1k with no ancillaries, he says he doesn't touch the quad cams stating they're harder to provide a warranty for. He was shocked when I told him that scooby is the preferred alternative for VW's. I think he seen living in a cave the past few years
I have a Buick 3.8 litre V6 complete with adaptor plate and clutch, engine mounts etc. It came out of a Bay but was originally fitted to one of these two:- All I need is another Bay to put it in! I'm thinking Single Cab or Panel Van??? Don't tell @Mrs Top Banana Racing
Do you have pics of that installed and knowledge of what it was like for power and fuel? I'm guessing a proper gas guzzler?
I saw it come out of the Bay it was in. Apparently quite common in the USA. MPG is reckoned to be 16-24 mpg depending on engine tune. Stock these things only make 120hp but they can be tuned and messed with up to 600hp if you really want to. It's just something for me to think about when I've finished Bill and Ted (so NEVER then). Apparently this engine is sought after by The Willys Jeep boys?
A South African friend of mine is looking for a bay and sends me links to their version of free ads. There seem to be all sorts of engine thrown in them - with various radiators bolted to the front - Toyota 3 litre diesels and the like.
Ive seen a couple for sale here in Sweden with Volvo B18(i think?) motors in them! The Swedes and their Volvos!
