That's what we did too, i think the instructions that came with it were for something else.

It's certainly worth fitting the canvas to upended roof before fitting the lot to the van.
The van is a tintop, the GRP roof is new and has no fixing holes for anything so it's a bit of a game all round until you get going! I've done a few now so I know the score, main thing is measure once, measure twice and have a cup of tea.
