T1 full flow

  1. No they don't this is completely wrong.

A sandwich plate stat is designed to bypass the cooler until up to temperature. The flow of oil when cold goes through the sandwich plate, directly to the filter (except a small amount which does go to the cooler for reasons discussed earlier). Then when the stat opens fully, all the oil will be diverted to the cooler, and on it's return from the cooler back to the sandwich plate, it will then go through the filter and back into the engine block as normal.

EDIT: vanorak has illustrated it far better than I could explain.

  2. You're bob on there BB....just spoke to the lady at speedflow.....for remote filter system, the supply from the stat to the cooler HAS to be considered (and therefore 'plumbed') as a separate circuit.....otherwise, it's defeating the object..... So oil is filtered regardless of temp one way or the other

It was starting to do my head in:eek:

  5. I'm assuming you don't stock anything like this then Alex?

  6. No we dont do a sandwich plate.

  7. I'm assuming the cooler sits horizontally between the 2 otherwise it would hang down too far?

  8. You might have but I'm getting there slowly!

  9. Yes it sits horizontally but with a slight tilt so the front edge is higher than the back so the air is forced through it.

  10. i'm just looking at altering my cooler set up as its in engine bay at moment, my case has been drilled in 2 places
[IMG] i have seen a picture of @zed engine and filter looks like its been drilled the same. which way does it flow (out at top by dizzy and back in at bottom) and was just going to use hose clips like you get with most cooler kits but you guys say dont, yours are probably the best but will cost more but are they that much safer.
if i just use clips i just have to buy a filter head and stat and fit between block and cooler
    what to do?

Mine has clips but actually doesn't need them, they're a "special" hose and unions supplied by Laurie Pettit that unbelievably just push on and stay there leak free, but I lost my nerve and added clips.

The stuff I use gets crimped on at my local hydraulic hose supplier once I have the lengths and angles for the fittings worked out.

Out at the bottom, back in at the top.

  12. the push on hose you can get from speedflow, the anodised unions are expensive and would cost over £150 for a pretty simple run to the filter head and cooler. i think i'll chance cutting my hose and use clips or may get a hydraulic pipe company to crimp hoses on. cheers for direction of flow will help connecting correct way round:thumbsup:

They must be available cheaper, Laurie Pettit supplied mine and he doesn't like to waste money.
I pay about £10-15 per pipe for all parts supplied and crimped. If you find your local hydraulic hose supplier, get the fittings and enough hose, sort it out and mark which way the fittings point and take back to be crimped.
Standard pipe and clips will leak.

  14. Think auto does the push on hose system that doesn't require clips... you can get mild steel plated, stainless and anodised aluminium ends... so you can go from cheap to expensive ends!! :)

I've used it before, and it is good stuff :)

  15. to open an old thread...
a simple question for tonight..do you use anything on the threads of the unions like plumbers tape or thread paste or are they done with nothing on. the ones i've taken off don't have anything on them but look like some small leakages.

    Just do them up tight.

  17. Hi guys I'll ask a question about this why it's up, does this pump/cover still send oil up the original gallery in the case ie via the oil pressure switch or does the case still need full flowing to get the oil in once it has been through any external coolers/filters?

  18. That's a full flow pump, so no drilling of the case!! :)

  19. Having a slow day so does it supply oil to the case as normal and to and from the ports on the pump?

Yes, out from the pump lid, round your stuff and back in the pump lid as if it hadn't left the motor.
