  1. hi guys. bit of a dilemma, got solex pdsit's on me type 4 engine, anyways, they are leaking a little bit, so... don't know which route to go down, either get them refurbed, or just get some nice shiny new ones, but , just had me bus resprayed and wallets quite slim at the mo, but haven't got a clue which carbs would be best suited, it's a 1700 by the way, so do I save up some more pennies a get shiny ones???? cheers in advance

  3. What do you mean by "leaking"?

  4. they have been leaking petrol, not a massive amount, just more of a weep, i'd say. the tinware below the carb, showed signs of leakage, although not a lot, just don't want me bus going up in flames, any recomdations of where to get carbs recondition, i'm in east Yorkshire,

  5. Bin.

    Get a nice 32/36 progressive....

Not really they are rubbish , its easy to rebuild a carb or just save up for some dells.

  6. Re-furb, kits are cheap and the older carbs are better made.

  7. I bought the refurb kit from JK for less than £30. have refurbed one of them and the other is now in bits and soaking in diesel. Pretty easy job to do really. Just need to label things as you take them off as per the diagram that comes with the JK kit.

  8. Re-furb - send them to that old nutter Laurie Ellis - come back better than new.

The original carb on my bay lasted for twenty five years, its replacement just two.
Luckily during those two years I had the foresight to send my carb off to a strange old bloke in the middle of no-where.
I'm back on my original carb and it's running better than it ever did.
I can't sing the praises of this bloke highly enough
assuming he's not dead or retired or something

@nooster recommended someone this week too.

  10. How to contact the said Mr Ellis?

  11. yeah I've just had a google around, all the posts for his refurbs seem to be quite old, one stating that he was in his late 70's, I best be looking for some one else,

Had mine done by a guy called Alan who trades under the name " Carbcare" he is based in Litchfield. 01543 305160 / 07791 400101
Tried all the usual suspects, but they had a long lead time before the could even consider taking on more work....this guy turned them around within a few weeks and did a great job.

  14. I have just rung the number I have for Laurie Ellis and the number is not recognised.
Apologies, he really was a complete oddity, used to sell his recon carbs at shows, he'd sell them exchange and would insist on setting the engine up for you.
Then when I came to post my carb to him, he gave me a postcode and told me that the post office wouldn't recognise it and would insist on something else, but I was to stand my ground and tell them it would go to the farm down the road.
Sure enough the PO told me the post code was wrong!

  15. Any pics of your refurbed carb nooster?
I know its whats done internally that really matters but people do like shiny things nowadays

This is the last one i did for a late bay member
