No heating on yet and wont be for ages - we try to go as long as we can without.

  5. No heating on yet. But its bloomin cold this morning :-

  6. Actually, the plan this year (I think) is to do what we did last winter and that was to leave the heating off and then just put it on for short periods when we really felt we needed to.

Oh how different that is from years gone by when heating was more affordable and we could all just have it on for the whole day

  7. Had the heating on once in the evening and the fire on a couple of times. Trying to avoid it for now as we've still got at least 3 camping weekends left this year, so don't want to get over-used to it! Extra layers. Thick socks. (And I probably shouldn't sit for so long in front of the TV or laptop...) :shiver:

  8. We have a logburner in the dining room and an open fire in the living room. Can't wait to get them on. I try to have a rule that if one or the other is going we don't have the heating on...my missus, the nesh one overrules.

Saying that I love this time of year. Layering up... hats and scarves...sticking something in the slow cooker....mmmmm.

  12. this morning i regretted not setting the timer! it will be for monday mornng :shiver:

is it better/more cost effective to have the heating on low for longer, or high for short bursts? i seem to remember my dad or grandad saying something about 'heating the bricks up' and not letting them get too cold as it'll take more to heat them up?????

mind you, we did have an open fire in every room and dad was a coal man :D

  14. Guilty! I put the heating on for a few hours today just to warm the house through. Doesn't help that like lotsa peeps I can't sleep unless the window's open which means the house is like an iceberg by morning

started using the fire and a little bit of heating now, mainly cos the house is quite damp after the renovation and the PO's didn.t purchase any heating oil for their 2 years stay here!

  18. not yet - we have a few "granny" blankets slung over the back of the settee and these get used - heating is not allowed on until at least second week in October :D

  19. the fires lit here.

  20. I put the stove on to take the chill off, mainly to stop the wife from putting on the heating and burning loads of oil. I hate the bedroom being warm, sleep a lot better with it properly cold and a toasty duvet on.
