Definitiely a 'trader' - they have a Lincoln Navigator and a 6 series Beemer for sale too. A few other vehicles too

Ask him for his VAT details as you might be claiming it back.

He might operate under the margin scheme and unless you’re a car hire company, essentially, almost no one can claim back VAT on a car. They know that and immediately assume you’re a time waster.

Does sound a bit dodgy though if he is a trader pretending as a individual

Just remember if it feels off it probably is, if it seems too good to be true, that’s because it probably is.

If you like the excitement and the risk, why not look at Copart?

  6. The seller has got back to me
He says they have been unable to find the service book at the old guys place
He said a service would have been done at 50000 at the same time as the cam belt replacement and gearbox service
He said there would have only been one service before that at 25 k

Does that sound the correct intervals one at 25 k and one at 50k?

Ok, thanks. I didn't/don't know about the Vat details, just thought it would stir things up a bit if they are dodgy dealers.
As you rightly say...if it sounds too good to be true then it probably is.

Him saying that the service would have been done etc means nothing in my way of thinking,
He is selling the car and will try any trick , if he is trading privately then there is no comeback or guarantee as I guess you will be buying as seen and tested etc.

Could give the dealer a call and ask about service history. Not sure how joined up they are, but your local Skoda might be able to tell you.

  10. Details all seem to be a bit foggy so personally I would avoid it .Traders are inevitable as people tend to not sell their cars privately any more .

  11. Every VAG car we have had and there have been 10 have been on 20k variable service, so 20k max including my current superb.
So a service at 25k and then at 50k is bollo.....rubbish.

  12. That is correct but i do find the older generation do lean towards having their cars serviced annually with their MOT . Good news if you are after a car that has been overserviced .

  13. I would find it hard to believe that the service booklet, which should be with the owner's manual, has been "lost". Most odd.

Is he implying the thing's only been serviced twice? What about oil changes?

What I find strange is if someone wasn’t servicing it properly then why would they spend the money on the cam belt and water pump and an expensive gearbox service by Skoda
He’s got the paperwork to prove this

  18. You're probably all over thinking this..

If its sound on viewing/test drive,
and the mot's back up the condition/milage,
    it probably is good

You will fully service it when you own it..
using that as a price lever..

  19. I’ll still be going to see it
if it’s a tarted up dog I’ll just walk away
I’ll also give Skoda a call tomorrow and see if they can confirm any service history
