  1. My new alternator arrived 1 hour ago , im a little worried about it as when you turn it by hand there is a point where it sticks and requires a bit more effort to turn also it makes a noise when it does manage to pass this point do you think i should fit it or send it back

  2. I think if you're not happy that it is as it should be, then send it back.

which way are you turning it, the brushes need a bit of bedding in and its best to only rotate in the right direction

  4. when it stuck i turned it in both directions

  5. The previous one that still in the van ( with noisy bearings ) didnt stick in place and that is supposed to be rebuilt as well

  6. Send it back. In fact, wee on it before returning it.

spin it round and round for a couple of minutes and see if the notch goes as the brush beds in a bit, if not it may not be a brush, is it notchy in the same place as you rotate it?

  8. Send it back... There shouldn't be any notching!! Brushes are made of a carbon graphite, and as such are low friction... so bedding in is unlikely to do what you are experiencing!!

  9. I have spun it quite a bit and it makes a noise on about 6/7 spins and then sticks in the same place , and then requires a bit more effort to move it as there is no pulley i have to use pliers sometimes , im going to speak to the supplier tommorrow

  10. yes im not happy with it and i dont want to fit it and have to take the bloomin thing out again:(

the supplier is just the retailer, who is the manufacturer?

  14. Bearing or foreign body between the rotor and stator.

  15. No labels on it , when i get the other one of the van i will have a look at the label on that

  16. This. The brushes should slide smoothly on the slip rings.

  17. Is it made by the Lucky Dragon Genuine Bosch Alternator Co, of Shanghai?

  18. If it's an Alternator brushes run on slip rings so shouldn't cause a problem as opposed to the generator where the brushes bed onto the commutator where sometimes a clicking noise maybe heard. If it is sticking send it back.

  19. jivedubbin, Look at your poll - 100% say send it back.
