Gear ratios from Bentley, tyre circumference from a google search, formula from here http://www.type2.com/library/misc/calcspd.htm
Could be dollop, but perhaps a rough idea and it at least came up with believable figures. Your gearbox will have a better final drive and 4th I think? but my 1700 didn't.

Thanks Zed I'll have a stab at it later:)

The curve you have sort of matches in peak power and general shape the curve for an original
T2 1700 engine .... 66HP at 4800 RPM (same engine in a VW Type 4 gives 80BHP at 4800RPM !!) in my nice 1972 VW engine service manual.. or
    T2 1800 engine .. 68HP at 4400 RPM. (same engine in a VW Type 4 gives 85BHP at 5000 RPM !!) .
dont have 2L version in that manual

Torque curves get flatter at higher CCs but not much more BHP .

But neither "official"curve seems to plummet off a cliff as much as the curve that you give at such a low RPM. And it shows how they are detuned for torque to push a bus..
I get a feeling from my 1641 that there is no point going past 4600RPM

I will try and upload a picture of these curves somewhere - There are quite a few in the manual.

  4. The WO code 1700 and 1800 engine in a type 4 car is not the same engine , they have high compression pistons and different cam plus it has a built in lucky rabbits foot

I'm supercharging my WO engine so it'll be interesting to see what power output is . And Paul is correct all 1700 type 4 engines had the 5400 rev limiting rotor arm

Just as well, because above that the crank will flex, pummel the shells into the case, then snap like this. :D

  6. That's where counterweights come in!!

My engine will rev up past 7k

I thought we were talking std T1? A naughty policeman snapped the one in the picture. His driving style was "rag it" until something breaks, then sell the van.

  8. Like with many threads, start with one engine, and the others creep in too ;)

Great stuff Razzyh, does it have T1 engine/early box info as well?

I like the bit where it quotes max speed:
    True speed - 131.2
    Odometer reads 142...

And terminal speed - a bit ominous

That's in KMH I'll have a look tomorrow.

What engine size, year and model do you want info for?

I spotted it was km/h. ;) it's the difference between reality and the speedo reading made me chuckle.
It's the gearbox/speeds in gears etc I'm more interested in as my engine is the Illegitimate child child of several different types...

  15. Mine drops off a cliff about the same revs.

2 litre, W code cam, DRLA 36s. I would need bigger carbs, bigger valves and a better exhaust to get more (but hey, 94ish HP at the flywheel is pretty good)

For a late 091 (6 rib) box I have a figure that 4200rpm = 80mph, for a 3 rib box 4200 = 68mph. Cannot remember where these came from, but assume stock wheels / tyres.

Zed, this was the gear's from a 73 auto

If not this is the info this book gives me, hopefully it's readable
