Just wondering what sort of dyno figures people have got from their 2l esp if they're running twin idf 40's. Mine returned a max 95 lbft and 67 bhp but only seemed to rev to 4500. Is this all about right cos I'm sure I saw figures somewhere which showed around 70 lbft 75 bhp and revved to 5500!
A rev-limiting rotor arm eh! Never heard of them - do they look any different from a standard one? But I'm pretty sure I replaced mine a while back so the answer to the question must be 'no'. Could be a rev-limiting engine I suppose if it ain't set up right but again I think it is cos generally she runs fine! It's a GE engine and was originally Fuel Injection.
GE is a 67hp unit Engine won't self rev limit, but if it's a stock cam, then it might run out of power at that rpm
I had one of these fitted, gave the guy at the rolling road a bit of a scare. He thought he'd broke something! http://www.vwheritage.com/vw_spares...14232_lang_EN_country_GB.htm?crumbStartPage=1
Could be this one: 4500 limit http://www.coolairvw.co.uk/Item/Sho...1905225B/4500_Rpm_Rev_Limiting_Rotor_Arm.html
Looking at those piccies of rev-limiting rotors I'm certain I don't have one - mine is just bog standard. However yet again I've learnt something so nothing lost and something gained! I think the cam is standard - p.o. didn't mention anything about it being upgraded so I guess Paul is right that 4500 is the limit.
It doesn't make sense for the limit to be 4500rpm and sell limiting rotor arms that go to 5400rpm! Your quoted figure of 5500rpm tallies better with the available rotor arm.
the 5400rpm ones were for the 1700 iirc TBH I'm a bit stumped as to the motor not going past 4500rpm, are you sure it wasn't the guy doing the dyno session holding it to that level?
Like Paul said, the guy probably reached max bhp saw the power dropping off and called that it. I never got a nice graph, but I did manage a couple of pictures on my phone. Not sure what at all means, but the RR guy was impressed
Looks like it fell off a cliff at the high rev end! Different engine, but mine does the same and I'm peeved about it. I want to do a 0-60 time but until I can storm up to 60 in third, I'm not going to even try. As I have a slightly sporty cam and ratio rockers I'm blaming the carbs or the exhaust. It goes great up to about 55, then that's your lot. No idea what revs are, I should get a rev counter. My bog standard 1700 T4 factory twin solex had it's power from about 40mph up to about 65 in 3rd. That's what I want.
Had a quick look on t'internet and done some calculating. I see various figures for final drive and 3rd gear ratio, that calculate with std tyres at 5000 rpm I'm either going 53 or 60mph. If it's the former, I must be running out of revs, if it's the latter I'm more peeved. My crank should manage 5400 with self destructing. I'll have to be more sure of the GBox ratios methinks. Sounds like it should rev more to me though.
In 4th I should run out of revs at 90mph, but I supect it would have overheated and gone bang before I got there!
Got any good links@zed, I'd like to have a look and see what mine is capable of? Theoretically anyway!
