WANTED Rear Bumper

Discussion in 'Late Bay Parts Classifieds' started by Sir Arthur, Apr 20, 2013.

  1. Evening all.

I've come to the conclusion that my rear bumper is unserviceable (for me anyway).

Does anyone in Essex/Herts/London have a spare lying about that's in a reasonable condition for sale (or charity)?

    Thanks.

The simple answer is likely to be no. I have a few front ones, most people do as you don't hit that on anything being a few inches from your feet. The back one gets all the whacks. Good luck

  3. Been keeping an eye out for a rear one for nearly a year now and they seem to be like gold dust. Hundreds of front ones come up for sale though so guess Zed's theory is probably correct!

  4. Not only do they get the whacks, they also catch water and muck as you drive along... So they rot out quicker than a front one :(

  5. Oh well. Looks like I'll have to put on my repairing hat.

  6. A bit of advice required while we're here.

The bumper has a rusted-out hole. As a pedestrian could catch themselves on the rough edges I imagine it could be an MOT fail. But I wasn't planning on sorting it out until after the MOT. What would be an acceptable fix for now? Gaffer tape? Filler?

  11. Yeah 2 choices. Gafer tape or buy a brand new bumper.

The only 2 good things about the brand new ones are

    1) It looks like a bumper

    2) It makes you realise what good quality metal your baking trays are made of.:(

    Ask me how I know

  12. How do you know Mick?

  13. I bought one of the cheap nasty things. :(

  14. Where from?

Cool air seem to be the only place with stock at the mo.

  15. I've got one Sir Arthur - will take some pics when I get in tonight

It's true the repros are super thin lightweight, but what's worse is they're too narrow top to bottom to fit the bumper irons without squeezing them on which makes the bumper bulge at the irons. Better than rust and holes though

  18. Hmmm it's not in brilliant nick I'm afraid Sir Arthur :(

Some surface rust inside but appears to be fairly sturdy and sound once brushed off and out.

However, some cuts have been made which I seem to recall was due to two verrrrrrrrrrrrrrry rusty bolts which meant the bumper had to be cut off

  19. Oh well. Thanks for looking and posting. That would take more money and skill to put right than the one already on the bus.
