Yup im a fan of the kiss principle Keep It Simple Stupid There has to be some way of locking them in the swung out posistion though otherwise when parked at an angle it will keep swinging back into the bus That would not be good if the engine lid was up
it looks exactly like the landy one i had, it had a notch and spring fired clip to hold it open, if you remind me i have a pic on my home pc
Cheers ricky id appreciate that pic Im guessing there will need to be spreader plates where the carrier mounts to the bus as there will be a fair amount of force on those bolts The side bars will bolt onto the jacking points so i should be able to jack the bus up on those if i want And the front bull bar will mount to the chassis rails so i could be towed out by that if the need arises It just needs making so i can remove the steering box and other components whilst its still connected Further down the line ill look into adding a 12 volt winch to the front end
Heres a piccy of the rear carrier Burley Motorsports in the US sell for the T25: Its got a spreader plate bolted onto the inside of the rear corner of the van. Heres their KISS solution to keeping it in the swung open position: You could always make it XXL and have a bike rack included. Or use the opposite side to mount a flip down shelf for a BBQ.
Cheers for posting those pics up zeb dude Do do look very simple to make and it appears they have bearings in the hinges which is a good idea
Spreader plates will help of course, but whatever you do the bolts will pass through outer skin, a 2mm gap, inner "structure" we've all seen on the resto threads, another 2mm gap and the inner skin. I reckon those 2mm gaps will get crushed to zero. Glad it's not me doing this...

Ahh i se what you mean now ricky I was thinking of a catch like the one in this pic but smaller to drop into a piece of tube or drilled hole That way its kept simple but i wont loose the locking pin There good enough for farm gates then there good enough for a wheel carrier
Tonight i dug the rear lights out to inspect there condition Not only are they very manky but the lenses have cracks in them and the housings are crumbly in places Ive chucked them in the dishwasher to clean up and actually see how bad they are Its more than likely ill have to replace them though
i have 2 lenses para they are a load better than that - i bought them new when i got my van but they were cheap and the amber pigmentation has virtually gone - i got some genuine nos ones of sheilsy you can have the old ones but you'd need to put amber bulbs in to make them legal.

As crumbly as the light fittings are, they are better that the cheap repo ones, the bulb holders on the repros are next to useless to
