Im going to leave it on axle stands and try the impact gun first Its not like a rattle gun When using it it feels like a flywheel that builds up momentum then when its got enough speed up gives the nut a single whack then starts all over again It takes an age to do it but it does it Ive used it on allsorts that others couldent shift over the years Plus its been a two week half term off school So when the socket arrives ill happily sit on the floor listening to the gun wind up and whack over and over again
I had a spare hour yesterday so i cleaned up and treated the corrosion that had started behind the spare wheel carrier mounts I also undid the rear hub nuts and started stripping the rear end down I used one of these to undo the rear hub nuts and it worked a treat Unlike my 12 volt one which seems to have died http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Clarke-Electric-Impact-Wrench-CEW1000-/200666941284?_trksid=p2054897.l4275
There was no form of seal between the mount and the bodywork so i guess moisture was getting trapped behind the mount and the bodywork Ive made some gaskets now for when i refit the brackets
Managed to get two hours on it today but the bolts that hold the rear hub to the rear arm and spring plate aint budging Ive managed to get one out but the other three aint even shifting with the impact gun it looks like they have not been undone since the van was made Ive stripped the drum and back plate off and cleaned up all the protruding threads with a wire brush and soaked it all in plus gas Ill get some heat into them tmw hopefully and give it another go
Its not been apart since ive owned the van I need to repair the backing plates and fit new doughnut rubbers aswell as a new brake cylinder
ah ok ,I thought you were back detailing again... the bolts are tight, but you have to say to yourself I can beat em...
It will all get a clean up and lick of paint whilst its apart but im not going as mad as i have with other parts Ill get the bolts to crack one way or another it was just getting a bit late to be making loads of noise
When I was doing my rear springplates, I needed heat but then gave myself a nice ring key spanner shaped burn on my palm when I forgot that heat conducts through metal!
Skutterbob was struggling with these bolts on his van on Saturday, when asked I told him he needed to try harder. They did come undone
I was watching and i did chuckle He was lucky his had been apart before They will shift if i belive they will shift
You're a lot too far away for me to pop round I'm sure you'll get them off, you strike me as fairly resourceful and stubbon
We had a fight with a set on a T3 yesterday while changing out a rotted through rear suspension arm. The big blow torch was a big help
blowtorch on the surrounding metal....aerosol plus gas on the bolt heads....try tightening first...trust me
