Here's my take! It is as you say " about the journey" Lou and i have owned and traveled in bays for a period spanning 35 years, in that time i have broken down in them ( both literally and mentally) i have seen places and met people that i would never have met without actually being in a bay ( people love em and are drawn to them) i have tried other marques but - nahh!

When i bought Rhubarb i had expectations of Europe wide travel etc but you know i found the rot and was stuck - until i found tlb and the very helpful people on it, i have made good friends here and received massive support in the resto both with physical gifts and practical help, TLB is a very good place to be and i care about it and the members a lot, so yes the t25 is a compromise - i can stay here and annoy you lot ( not you though Poo ;) ) but i love the bay and have grown to accept its limitations.

The t25 would be more practical - it would be cheaper to buy than my bay would sell for hopefully ( i have no idea what i would sell Rhubarb for btw ) and it would put some hard earnd back in the Tommy tank.

I still have no idea what to do - i am just waffling.

    Carry on you lot!

  2. would some t**s help? maybe?

1600 JXi think - but i know how diesels feel i do about 75000 miles a year in my truck and have done for 30 years it feels right and looks right - fully serviced and even at this moment the owner is having a cracked breather replaced because he wants to have it right, the dust on it is from spending six month's stored in a body shop.

It's a good lump mate that bit i am sure of

  6. If its a 1600D - leave well alone, been there and would not go back!
It may drive well at the moment but runthe 1600 at 60mph for a few 1000 miles and the back will begin to get plastered in spots of oil - run one at 45mph for 100,000 miles and it will probably be okay.

Load it up as you would a Bay and it will be no faster, no more economical and leak as much oil - and parts will be just as pricey - I hated mine!

If its a 1900D it will be far better, cruise well and be fairly economical (around 30mpg)

  13. I'm air cooled through and through but unfortunately petrol isn't 50p a litre now. I've bin thinking it myself for a while because I can't afford £100 a time away in fuel. Food for thought away :)

The club 80 -90 guys are saying it's a panel van conversion now.

  15. Hi poptop2 - yep from own experience!

Bought a one with 90k on it and did about 20k in it over 3 years - it was a one owner delivery vehicle with service stamps from VW dealer somewhere in Brum. Felt good at 60mph for a while (about 2000 miles) but its just too small a lump to push the weight along, in the end valve guides went, head warped etc, local diesel specialist (Malvern Diesel) said 1600's were regulars for skimmed heads and new guides. We used ours as a second car and if we went away kept of the M'ways and stuck to 45mph - we reckoned about 24/5 to the gallon. Trick is to unbolt the tail pipe and turn it 90 degrees so it points to the tarmac, no oil caught in the air vortex around the back of the van and the van stays a bit cleaner, just kept topping it up.

We did what you are tempted to do, sold a 76 Devon to buy the Wedge - its just that they have their limitations like Bays do, if I was tempted like you now I think I would wait for a 1900 to come along
    Cheers
    B

  16. Yeah, buy it, no more getting waved at by kids as you drive past, no more garage forecourt conversations with randoms, no more T-Shirts or VW camper merchandise at Christmas and birthdays...... Sounds great huh? ;)

I will double check the lump size but the panel van conversion is a bit of downer - if you look at the pics its defo a ex panel van - i hadn't noticed that:(
