  1. But the thing about reskinning is that if your doors fit well before you start, then they will fit well when you put them back on. Get different doors and you will have to spend time adjusting them and making them fit properly.

  2. I agree, only problem is the door that needs changing has never fitted flush but tbh because it's tatty I've never looked into adjustments etc

  4. How much does he charge an hour? o_O

You're looking at a day per door if they need frame repairs... No repairs to the frame, then approx 4/5hrs per door!!

New skins are £60ea from coolair :)

  5. £30ph plus the cost of the skin, £200 for a dry state import probably evens out I guess ;)

Good cab doors seem to be going the same way as RHD sliding doors, getting like rocking horse Marmitee.

I've heard of someone binning binning doors and bumpers at the beginning of a resto, thinking he'll get new or good used, to then realise how expensive and difficult the bits are to get! :p

Most cab doors can be repaired if theyve rotted out the inner frame in the corner, but its a fiddly time consuming job and as already said, took me about a day.

apart from the hinge difference lates have a hole for the lock pin buy the window

  8. Excuse my ignorance do earlies not have the lock pin?

I've phoned all the places mentioned earlier in the thread none have late doors, one is gonna call me back but it seems everyone has early doors :(
Would have thought the earlies would be more scarce but obliviously not.

  9. Don't know about VERY early buses, but 71-73 (I think) were all lock-in-handle: my 73 bus has the lock in the handle rather than a lock pin.

  10. Cheers bb

  11. depending on your doors, and the doors you get, it can be as simple as pulling the pins and swapping the bolt part of the hinge over!!

it's all in the hinges though  everything else just works as is!! :)

    Hi All,

Sorry, only just seen this thread

Just a quick one to clarify that the new cab doors we stock are straight from the VW factory, and so really should fit!
Obviously coming directly from VW means they're not rusty either ;)

If you've got any questions or anything about them or anything just let me know

    I hope this helps
    Josh :)

  13. Josh, the concerns people have with the "new" doors, is the quality of the metal!!

Brazilian bays don't have the best of reps for not going rusty ;)

.... And the stupid swage line along the bottom of the doors (if indeed these have them)

Ah, Brazillian metal - maybe I should have put "Obviously coming directly from VW means they're not rusty yet"

To be fair they seem pretty good to me.
Because of the way them we've stored them we've ended up with the ones we've had in stock the longest at the back of the warehouse, but we check them everyone so often and they're still in great shape. Obviously I know they're not being directly exposed to rain in there, but they're certainly being exposed to the damp and extremes of temperatures as our warehouse is in fact a converted air craft hangar!

I'm not too sure about the swage lines I'm afraid, but I believe we now have some without them.

Looks like I might have misread the first few posts, which I apologise for (I'm trying to get a load of stuff sorted for our new catalogue and get my stuff together for the trip to Ninove tomorrow!) but while I can't comment on their ability to resist rust, I can say that as they're genuine VW parts they certainly should fit :)

    I hope this helps
    Josh

Be sure to let us know when it's done! Wouldn't want to order and receive that over-braided rubbish in the post
    ;-)

Ah, just spoke to our Purchasing Manager about it and it's actually in stock now! :D

The bit that threw me is that it replaced the old stuff in our system (which we obviously no longer stock), so there wasn't a notification saying that the new product was in, and the photo hasn't been updated yet
