Yeah, probably. I'm not saying they're right, anyone who knocks out that type of work and expects to be paid needs stringing up. However, I do believe that being asked to donate to compensate that individuals situation and error of judgement is a bit rich. I'll donate my £1 to St. Michaels Hospice - where it's really needed. And no, I don't tip waitresses
This is the type of 'horror' story that made me go down the LHD, import route when I bought my van. I was a newbie (and still am) with little experience, however I seen the van 'stripped' back and, in my view, it was solid enough. I could have had the 'wool pulled over my eyes', not knowing any better, however I was able to have a good look around the van before it was tarted up. Using the advice on here and other websites, I had a good idea what to look for. My van may not be perfect, but for the price I paid, I deemed it to be worth it based on current market demand and costs. What I've learned in the short time within the VW 'camper scene' is that there are many genuine, decent people out there that do an honest job for a decent price, unfortunately there are others that don't.
I don't know the history of the thing do I, sounds like she has a first class case and go to small claims court then post haste.
court feck court .she was told what was needed , by zeb , she took his advice and went else where , so as said u get what u pay for , u want Marmitee u get Marmitee u want quality u pay quality , but this also is never the case , u stick to them that NO AND HAVE A GOOD REP , OWEN N W
This is what i thought Knocking all those repairs in then large amounts of filler over the top After it was painted it would look quite respectable and only a keen eye would spot all was not perfect Im glad shes in safe hands now
With the amount of filler that would have been needed it would have been the slowest bus in the land!
Having read the threads on this ladies unlucky story, makes me appreciate the good find i had with my bus,( yep, I had a problem with my respray, drips and things ) the day I met Colin at Elemetal , I am quickly learning that if you can not maintain and do the work yourself, make sure you are checking the work whilst it is being done or straight after, and not to be worried by actually saying ' this is not good enough ', as at the end of the day, we are paying for a product / job ; luckily for me the guy i used did rectify his mistakes, but in hindsight it would of been better for me to have actually seen his work before i committed myself, and look at other peoples etc as well, another lesson learnt for me, in owning a bus.
well it's in safe hand now at least. Poor woman though! I had the same problem with a mini that I had repaired in a well known mini garage/restorers. I didnt have time to sort out the problems myself as I was also going through some issues with the mrs at the time. It went in for sills, front end and a-panels +paint. a lot of work really and I paid a decent chunk of change. when I got it back everything seemed okay. the bonnet lines were a little out so opened it up for a bit of a look. the seams along the inner wing to outer wing had been tacked (at most)and covered with seam sealer. I tool the finishing strip off that covers the joint between wing and a-panel and this had been tacked as well (already rusty with no primer). then I looked underneath and found that the sills had actially been tacked on and stuck together with chemical metal type filler stuff. At this point I bought a welder and did it myself
I'm no pro.. But that's an absolutely horrifying bodge. How can someone take a rusty arch and make it worse haha
top of the rear arch panel - it's been fixed above and below. The sliding door - I haven't looked at the inner - I wonder if it's been repaired. The outer is almost ok, but what doesn't show in the photo is they've hammered it in at the bottom and it's a bit dented where the outer hit the inner and wouldn't bash in enough. I was mistaken about the repairs underneath. Passable, but not great. I'm being kind. The repair's ok for a patch, but there's a hole left further along. I think they might have tucked a bit of floor in above the top hat repair - the interior's still in and it's a Devon Moonraker Because they didn't adapt the rear outrigger to allow the sill to sit lower, it wasn't long enough and has been extended to allow the outer to be fitted.
Front arch near the seatbelt point. I wonder how much A post there is left below the hole? Better. Blowing holes welding to rust. Inner arch repairs? New arch, the corner return was spot welded to it before fitting with a spotwelder. The almighty heat dent is bannished forever. Shame they used the whole panel then fitted the rear corner wrong. Reason is they repaired the end on the D post and bottom/end of the inner valance and got it 5mm too high. I "adjusted" it back down to get the Marmitee Klocker panel in the right place for the rear lights. It's never going to be a show winner, the owner is on a strict budget (now it's my turn!), but it'll be the right shape and not lumpy and bulgey.
So they didnt get to the filler stage up top and thankfully for you they didnt get to the underseal spraying underneath
For what they charged I'd have had it all done - the whole bus - and it'd be prepped for paint. Maybe I don't charge enough.
