£750.00 remanufactured isn't going to be a particularly well built motor, reading what the seller has had done, tbh.

the list of suggested parts what are new comes to more than £750 if you sourced them yourself, adding all of that up speaks volumes for the quality of build you'd buy

  7. Sorry thought there was a tightness of cash flow....... thought it might get them through.

I know what your saying & if money is tight, it may get them through. Don't have to be sorry dude. As with others, I'd hate to see Charlene stuck with a suspect motor and false economy.

A good mate of mine bought a motor, similar off ebay for £650 fully rebuilt, for want of a better expression it was Marmitee from the word go. He regretted it as soon as he fitted it and got it running.
It never held oil pressure, despite new bearings and new oil pump.

But he had to have a new head fitted!

Add all of the parts up, based on what listed and the selling price leaves nothing left, more likely a loss. Doesn't make sense to me!

My advice would be don't rush. Take your time. Take a breath. Don't panic.

Since my van went tax free I've had no end of engine troubles. Throwing cash at it has not been the solution.

I know what buying houses and lack of cash can do. Use a tent this year and browse the for sales section and eBay and see what comes up.

I wish you the best of luck because I know the kids love the van and always want to be out in it, but if that doesn't work they won't mind being in a tent. I've had to do more than my fair share over the last couple of years.

  13. my engine decided it didn't like me much anymore just before xmas,,, nice.
before you do anything you need to know exactly what is wrong with it, if someone has looked but cant decide whats wrong go somewhere else.
mine was not repairable at all, yours could be.
I have so far bought a useable engine case, bottom end with no endfloat for £200, getting a new set of barrels and pistons and then using my old heads and all the other bits I have stripped of my nacker so I'm at about £400 plus odds and sods hopefully.
good luck but check it first......

  14. The only option for me has always gone down the secondhand route ,loads of people now are fitting faster engines and getting rid of their old ones....

Your problem is relatively simple ,you could be back on the road in a couple of days...:hattip:

  15. The case on that one will leak like a sieve in no time, case has been painted over all the joins, alt stand, piston barrel joins. paint will soon peel taking any sealer with it. Your shiny new painted engine will look like the exxon valdez within no time !!!
