Managed to grab an couple of hours on the van tonight Got the last remaining top hat repair welded in
And made a repair piece for the cross member out of the left over top hat and welded that in Managed to get a few other little bits done, so slowly she's starting to come back together
For today's instalment i thought i would make a start of modifying the new LHD floor panels to fit my RHD bus These are the 2 halves This is shaped for the sliding door opening which is on the other side and this one is for the other side, which i have marked up for cutting So todays job was to cut the side of the one halve and weld it to the other
o out with the grinder and off with piece i need for the other floor halve Trail fitted against the floor and side panel Fit's bob on which is always a winner
So i clamped it up and cracked on with the welding I little fill in piece which was cut off the other halve All welded up and trail fitted the check, all looks good
ext was to cut the curved part on the other halve to match the sliding door sill Fit's really well but might need to do a little adjustment on the return edge of the inner sill just to make it sit a bit flusher I also had to trim a little off the middle of the one floor halve, they must come slightly longer from VW in brazil Joins up nice now
So pics of the 2 halves in place, and of a couple of bits that need some steel infills to finish off Still need to fit the out riggers and do a couple or little repairs to the inner wheel wells, than i can get all the chassis and the underside of the floor painted up, then i can weld in the floor Need to get another bottle of gas first
Cheers mate, i've been lucky as all the chassis is solid on mine you've done some cracking repairs to yours
I do love a new floor. Ha-ha - cross posted with Paul. I'd advise you don't go crazy plug welding it to the supports in every low or it may end up like a big dipper. Plug welds are far stronger than the original spot welds so no need IMO. I staggered them on each support in case it "flapped about". I just did this having previously rather spoiled one, though that one was a repro which probably didn't help. Nice and flat. Multi-coloured mayhem, but nobody will see it and I had paint to use up. Another plus for the LHD - the floor fits.
