Almost Engine's back in, all up and running, just need to pull the carb and give it a service, as it's running like a dog
Surprising how fuel lines deteriorate so quickly. I've only put Shell fuel in and it's clearly the outside that's cracked. This was fitted last year by Paul. I'm going to replace this with the expensive cool air stuff as I don't need the hassle of changing the cheap stuff every year. If that's the outside imagine what the inside looks like. I'm going to cut it down the middle, open it up and have a look.
IIRC someone chopped one up recently & it was solid on the inside. Never-the-less it's a bit disconcerting, despite all the discussion over the last couple of years about bio fuel & ethanol additions to unleaded, that we are still seeing this degradation on fuel hose fitted to buses. It surely can't be just the VW aftermarket that has this issue...or is it
A friend of mine changed his fuel lines with R9 from halfords. 2 years later needed doing again, so it seems to be most places. I think it's just a case of cheap/incorrect rubber being used. I'm pretty certain it's cool airs (is that run by @big rich ?)fuel line at around £45 is guaranteed for 25 years. So there should be no problem there. Though I do wonder if you have to have it replaced under warranty if you have to send the old stuff back first. Annoyingly the fuel line that I did have seemed fine iirc. It was changed for preventative measures as I had owned the bus for 4 years or so and never changed them. Just remembered I'm going to have to do the breathers as well. Arse!
Yep, you're right. Good stuff is out there. So far so good with what I've used....but as fuel hose is permeable the problems only manifest themselves over time. That's probably why the outer layer (perhaps a slightly different compound) shows degradation whilst the inner does not?? Anyway for what it's worth I fitted ISO 7840 A1 rated hose (not A2 as A1 is less permeable) for feed lines. I can't recommend it Ray as it's only been a couple of years but so far so good...
I fitted mine sometime ago with stuff from the German supply company or something like that in Canada. Very good stuff but I will check it later today when I have it up in the ramp Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk
Bent ripped. Apparently they were already cracked so they've done me a 'favour' according to an 'expert'. Lucky it happened in the UK and not whilst in France I think was his exact words
Seriously though I just saw your other post! Bad news mate you've had a bad few months sorry to hear about it.
