My Mrs does that and uses exactly the same phrase.

 

I fixed the fumes leaking into the heating myself. How's that for someone who doesn't know mechanics. Read some stuff... Did the work and drove for about 10 miles, best drive and cleanest heating air ever. It made me realise how bad things were.

 

New engine seal on too! That'll be helping keep out exhaust heat and smells!

I realised that a certain pipe/tube thingy wasn't connected so the heating was taking in the dirty smelly air straight from the engine bay. So I reattached the tube and everything is perfect! I don't know if it was that or the new engine seal keeping exhaust smells out but whatever I did it worked. I'll take it out a big drive tomorrow to make sure!
