  1. Well...I think i got them for a fair price?? I paid £3000 for 4 vans, the 3 you see and a early'69. The '69 stayed on the truck and went straight to the scrappy! It was hanging lol, by the time it got to me the engine was on the bed of the truck and no way was it coming off the truck and getting stuck half way across a main road and no way of moving it lol. The viking and Devon has already had alot of work done, but still needs plenty more, the Bilbo needs all the usual repairs. As far as i can see all the interior for all vans is there, all the glass etc is present and there is lots of other spare panels and other bits and pieces which im still sorting out!

so i think £3000 was't too bad...What do you think??

Heres a pic of the '69...Believe me, it looks a lot better in the pic than it did in real life lol

  3. Thats interesting to know about bilbo

My bus came from the netherlands and was painted red from the factory so i suspected it was an ex emergency services vehicle of some sort

Ive seen others with the roof hinging like mine and a few others side hinging like yours

  4. Dont know if its worth contacting Bilbo and see if they can give you any info? Theres only a little info on their website and not much info in "VW campers an inside story" only the Marlfield conversion which is the one i have, but im sure they must have done more. I haven't found anything on the web either!

  5. wow looks likeyou`ll be busy busy ;D

  6. Keep me busy for a while

  7. Been busy but not much to show so far! The Devon is in the garage, Viking is outside covered up and the Bilbo is outside full of bits and pieces from the other campers lol. A bit frustrating in that the previous owner has done alot of work so far, but never treated any of the panels he replaced and are covered in surface rust ::) So have spent time rubbing back to bare metal and getting some paint on the Viking to give it a bit of protection till i can start on it.
Had to remove the engine in the Devon as it is seized, the rear inner cross member is rotten , outer isnt there and the engine bay sides are both rotten. So cut the rear cross member out to remove the engine easier lol. Will post some pics of the Devon tomorrow.

Heres a few pics of the Viking, underneath is all done and red oxided, its had both front arches replaced, both outer cills, both rear arches and nearside rear corners, plenty more to do but will have wait till i get the Devon done so i can get the Viking in the Garage.

  8. looks pretty solid with no nasty suprises from what I can see :)

  9. No, the Viking isn't too bad, the worst bit is the rear roof/gutter and above the tail gate. Think this rot was caused by the extractor fan outlet!? but it came wirh a rear roof/body section cut, so have the panels needed for repair.

  10. Looks like a bargain to me mare I payed half what you did for a half rotten bus lol

  11. Excellent work 3 rusty bays being fixed up I like it. :)

  12. I'd have sold the 69 or at least stripped all the parts off, I'd never scrap any VW. :(

  13. You lucky git!

  16. OK, been working on the Devon but just seem to be redoing work that has been already done! A few bad repairs, the floor had been cut out behind the drivers seatand the top hat end was rotten. They had welded a new jacking point and outrigger and welded one side to the chassis, i could see a big hole in the chassis behind the outrigger! and also under neath the chassis too. Someone had tacked a piece of metal behind part of the hole and put the outrigger on top!!! So cut the outrigger and jacking point off.....

    Heres what i cut out

So welded new metl back in the side and bottom of chassis

So waiting for a top hat to arrive and relpace the ends that are rotten and a center crossmember.

Im a bit confused what is happening at the end of the inner cill area....Looks like its too short??

Theres something missing betwwen the end of the cill and the inner wing, ive got a repair panel for the rear of the arch but there is still something missing??

    Any one got any ideas?

    Cheers Tim

  17. What seems to be missing is the end of the inner and middle sills.
