It was VHT Matt black, fookin good stuff coz I've not stopped coughing since I painted them I'll have a look at the name tomorrow as I can't remember, aside of it being good for 650'C
VHT paint flashes off, but doesn't set unless you get it blummin hot. When it gets hot it melts and sets. If it only ever gets warm (your HX's have cold air blowing through them) it never sets.
Cook them in an oven and stink the place out or watch the VHT wash off with any oil. Radiator enamel is OK for most of the outide of heat exchangers except for the places where the fins touch the cases. Where they grind through from inside and rust through from outside.
Weve just taken delivery (at work) of a test sample conditioning chamber, I need an excuse to try it out
Almost built now, awaiting the 'box coming back from Bears n we can prepare to install it into Gusbus. This week, we have got some odds n ends done: Inlet manifold balance pipe, top breather box hose, Heat risers (which didn't fit) fitted and the oil filler top done. We have got the following left to do: drill n tap the r/h air filter top for breather pipes blank off the oval n round holes on the h/x's fit a cylinder head thermocouple fit the clutch and pressure plate Install!
No Marc, gonna leave one off for now, tbh the one we have on our westy doesn't get used! Somewhere (on the samba I think) its noted that the snail fan is only effective on idling, when the motor revs the engine fan becomes effective.
Now then, we're about ready to swap the type 1 for the type 4. So @Paul Weeding & @zed whats the best oil to use for the camshaft break in process? Do I need something along these lines: http://www.millersoils.co.uk/automotive/tds-automotive.asp?prodsegmentID=240§or=Classics or do you have a recommended oil. I plan to change the oil after the camshaft break in.
