Well, Just been out for a test drive, 40 miles or so and it made it! So where was I with the tale? The first thing i had to tackle was the cab floor it was a little bit holy on the drivers side, (not terrible but not great) Cut out the rot Put in some new, and a bit of promer and paint
Then there was the seats not too comfy or pretty Some covers from ebay and bit of swearing and some Madmatz later
While doing all this i was also playing with bits to get through its mot, Rear brake cylinders were leaking so thay came off and drums got the treatment, New back plates shoes cylinders etc and while they were off it made sense to sort out the drive shafts all new joints and a clean up of the shaft, Coincidently one of the boots is already looking a bit cracked less than 6 months on! Also new exhaust back box and a pair of replacement solex carbs A lick of paint on the back box
The headlining had to come down to allow access to the in built guttering for the sun roof, no pics of all that got to busy doing and forgot! The new headlining is on order from C&C its a TMI sunroof one, i did look at getting one made but all in all it wouldnt have worked out any cheaper. On a side note, have you ever noticed that the perforations in alternate sections of the lining are just painted on dots!? Anyway, work continued on building the MK1 interior for the rear, i say MK1 because once we actually start using it, it'll need to be redisigned to suit and so the mk will be built First off, it was time to line the floor, i used strips of 6mm (i think) mdf to pack up the 9mm ply thus- Then some ikea units, Im not worried too much about the weight lets face it all the units weigh less than 1 adult, and this was a minibus. The little unit on the end is actually and over oven unit flipped onto its back to make a little seat, and allows the room for the full width BlueBird rock and roll bed to fold out, (not very impressed with the bed TBH, fo the price i would have expected better) the unit behind the passengers seat is a swing out for the cooker, angain its a MK1 desighn to cchaqnged and amended as ideas come along Thats about all i've got uploaded at the mo, there are lots of bits i've missed and lots lots still to do, I'll keep ya updated as i go
So, As she stands at the moment - Here on our first little test drive/outing, the only pictures we have not taken outside our flat And the intrerior at close of play today, The rear seat cushions are just wrapped in a throw until we can get some vinyl to match the fronts and make some proper seat covers And the boot
Now these solex replacement carbs have been giving me grief since i fitted them, and i've always had very sooty looking plugs, but after a little bit of a fiddle the other day my plugs looked like this today It may be partly due to only ever really idling and not having had a run beforethat they are sooty roung the top but the electrode looks pretty good to me, maybe now a little lean. but its a step forward
Nice colour combo for units. Very classy looking. One of the best tools i've ever used to set up my twin carb mixture was the Gunsons colour tune. Amazing.
