Its just eggshell, but then i've over coated it with some Plasticote spray from B&Q http://www.diy.com/nav/decor/paint/specialist-paints/spray_paints/Plasti-kote-Super-Spray-Clear-Acrylic-400ml-9254002 Seems reasonable, so hopefully it'll give some protection from wear and tear, but time will tell.
Wowsers, super impressed I assume you are a joiner by trade? I'm a timberframer working in restoration of timber building (barns, mills, church roofs, etc), so I feel I know my way around a piece of wood but nothing like this. I literally know zip about working with modern building materials like MDF. Excellent work Major K+ Luke
Thanks OP, Jedi, I'm nothing more than a lowley garage door fitter, so the nearest i get to joinery in my everyday life is putting bloody big screws through 4x3 or 3x3 to hold them together and fix them into brickwork, This was really a bit of an experiment to see if it would work and i could do it, and so far so good, I cant remember where i heard about flexi mdf, i think i googled 'how to make curved doors' and it came up as one of the search results, and the only reason I designed it with curved doors was to make life hard to build it i think
Hats off to you bud. its looking great from where I'm sat And your Mrs must be a keeper if she lets you build and paint stuff in your front room Luke
Yeah I suppose shes alright She does like to hurry me up a bit when I take over the flat with bay bits though, So today I started to fit some of them in the van - Then i refitted the slightly modified R'nR' Bed support. Note that I've gained another couple of inches on the depth of the unit under the seat by not mounting a panel directly to the seat support - Then I fitted the doors, I've still got to put the locks/handles on them but at least they're out of the flat I've got to trim/adjust the corner curved door a bit to square it up, and also fit a trim just above it, but it was getting dark and that was enough for one weekend.
Now that is looking so cool! You've made such a great job of it. Got this thread bookmarked to see the end result!
omg Dave that's absolutely bleddy fabulous!!!! and Liz you're a star for losing your front room to all the tools and mdf dust if we didn't have our interior we'd be begging and bribing you to do one for us!!
What a job your are doing there mate! Looks cracking. Cant wait to see it in person, might also steal the plans from you, as what is in my head for mine is very similar. and 'hack' out the bits that are different.
Ditto ^ However I'm sure my r&r bed comes out further than that and I'm now wondering if ive installed it correctly. I've be pondering my interior, the bed and how to fit it all in for a while now. How long does your bed come out?
Thanks A little update, This unit has been a pain in the preverbial so it doesn't look like I've done much but its taken a fair few hours just to get this far:-
Oooo I can't wait for Winter Camp now to test it out, although I'll probably be too scared to touch any of the units )
