Unfortunately, folk only learn to back up after disaster has struck at least once. It's a learning process...
No, if it was Windows you wouldn't be able to get into any kind of disc utility and rescue files before replacing it - the HDD would just be completely lost. Hard drives are the same for all types of computer, it's all the same technology, and therefore equally able to fail. They just don't like being in mobile devices because one drop, one jolt can cause them to fail. Now that SSDs have got to a decent size, they should solve this problem.
That's because we are. They're the split screen vans of the computer world. Very trendy and too expensive.....
Sorry but I thought Mac were the best thing since sliced bread and were perfect, well that's what apple owners are brainwashed into believing.
Mine is on regular and permanent back up to one of two external Lacie rugged drives … but then my iMac is my work computer. Anyone got a macbook air … I'm thinking of one so I can work remotely … i.e. away in the camper van on extended weekends away.
We've got a Macbook Air, my wife uses it and it's been excellent. SSD hard drive too, so no hard drive problems. She is renown for killing technology and it has lasted since last August without any problems so it's going well so far...
I know little bout pincuters as my four year old calls them! Does that mean it is quite robust for a HD?
You need a firewire 800 to 800 connection lead . plug that into your mac and access his files, back up his files on your mac. then reboot his mac press and hold T until his mac screen gives you the screen to delete all files and reinstall os10 or whatever you have. If this fails your hard drive is nailed and you need a new one. Failing that take it back to John Lewis and exchange it if it is still under warranty. Common fault apparently. Neil is having the same issue!
Ps an hard drive is less than £100 and can be done by your local computer fixer easily. It's only four screws!
@tuesday_wildchild @baybirmingham Sounds like you know a little about apple computers The Mac book Pro and Mac book Air do they have the same hard drive, or are they different? Just that if the OPs Macbook Pro hasn't lasted a year that doesn't sound very robust
