  1. hello

dont know if anyone can help since taking my vw type2 bay for mot it has developed a loud knocking noise when you go over bumps or a rough road it didnt have this before. I took it back to the garage and they couldnt find anything loose the noise is coming from the drivers side at the front by your feet its annoying. when the van is parked up if you bounce up and down its not there!!! please help thankyou

  2. sounds like the CV joints. Is it like a cluck-cluck-cluck noise?
Getting my CV joints sorted tomorrow. Similar symptoms to you.

  3. Check your anti roll bar mounts

I have seen the anti roll bar itself snap inside the mount

Is the tester stuck under there?

  5. Sounds like it may be the tester under there OR one of your ball joints. I had a noise similar noise and found the control rod on the steering had developed some slack.

  6. I'm sure they would have found him when it was taken back to the garage? ;)

    Only if they wanted to....

    Majorhangover and Birdy like this.
  8. But surely they would have taken the hammer off him to stop the knocking.

  10. yes its a cluck-cluck noise....bloody doing my head in:( ....it did have new ball joint cover (as old one split)...

  11. will get a cuppa and get under with the hammer 2mor morning;)...will check anti roll bar mounts 2 lol

  12. the tester will be stuck on front on bus 2mor :)...will check control rods while im under the old girl, and check out steering a few whacks of hammer

  13. to test the ball joints the garage has to jack the wheel up and put load on the bottom [scaffold bar wedged] and pull ,if they did not do this you need to change garages...

the noise is coming from the drivers side at the front by your feet

    cv joints are there?

  14. Not sure if they done that...i took it back the following day and they had it up in air and checking all bolts and wigging things but no noise!! But yes the noise is coming by
My feet as you drive feels like it will fall apart every time on rough road,or go over a bump....is there a way to test C.V joints when bus parked up? thanks all for kind info
VW T2 is new to us and its a whole new ball game ....anybody in somerset got spare 5 mins ill get the kettle on :)

Sounds like ball joints but they would have failed the test so unlikely.

Check the front belly pan isn't loose - been there, done that!

  16. loooks like hammer with get some work today lol...will check belly pan and def ball joints

The problem you have is that many noises from all over the bus appear to come from where your feet are! If it's regular it's bearings/cv's. If it's over bumps it's something loose or worn. MOT should have excluded parts worn to the point of knocking, so something not MOTable, but loose.

Belly-Pan is what I thought as surely anything like CVs knocking should have failed an MOT?

  19. Its a funny noise clunk-clunk...wasnt there befor MOT but was after the after the MOT so took it back they checked bolts, wigging stuff etc greaseing bits etc,etc,...But they still could not work out what was clunking!!..Had new ball joint cover on so was wondering could they have strecthed something??..Belly pan is fine just been under her...when we press brake its the same clonk but not all time so wondering if all linked?...bloody bus :(

  20. Not something (like a spanner?) rattling around inside the pan - bouncing/rolling around under braking?
