ive got to respect the stoicism of you guys who blow your motors up and it doesnt seem to get you down. My motors decided to be poorly and i havent a clue what the problem is yet! Depressed, and ive sheared a nipple off a rear brake cylinder. May not sound much to you guys but to me...... Spent a lot of time on my bus recently that i dont really have and just as im going away it fluffs up, and for no apparent reason! Grrrrrrr!
One less brake to bleed. Rear cylinders are so cheap, not worth trying to extract the sheared bit unless you can't wait for the posty. What's the engine doing/not doing?
yer probably right. bled em up anyway - will swap the cylinder at some point as yer right - not worth the faff! Did the brakes, went for a drive all fine then just wouldnt tick over and a misfire on over-run. Found a dodgy lead and swapped em all and ticks over fine, slight misfire, hunting a little but just not crisp at all. Im guessing crap in the carb as its all over the place but what i dd notice is that the coil is lighting up. not somethig ive ever noticed before but as i was faffing in the dark i could see the end of the coil just glowing intermittently like something was arcing inside. Anyway will check gaps, clean carb, whack some plugs in cos it probably due some and check timing and then just drive it till it breaks properly
I hear you, it never happens any other time! Deep breaths, count to ten & then beat it with something large, works for me
The coil shouldn't light up, but they arc from the king lead terminal to the -ve when somethings up, I'm trying to remember what as mine did it once! Think it was knackered (tech term). Have you got a spare coil? Remember the state your rotor arm was in? Connected for sure. I'd check the state of the replacement rotor too.
Hey! No need I am all sorted thanks! Sounds like you have enough on your plate right now anyway! Have bought split relay and PH3 control unit! All good. Also managed to pick up new Whale chassis mount heater, electric and gas giving out 2kw off eBay for £397.00 so pretty pleased wi myself!
Didnt have much time before work and amazing how a bit of sleep restores some logic. Thought it was either a blocked idle jet or more likely an air leak. Strange for an air leak to suddenlly occur - what have I been doing....brakes......servo leak would cause thoipefully its hat so blocked it off re-set my idle and it seemed to run fine. Timing bang on so hopefully it will be on a hose and not on the servo itself. easily checked by disconnecting the pipe connection at the front on the servo and blocking off. Wish Id had the time to do it this morning so I knew whether I needed to source a servo or not!! Guess this is more of a self-help thread LOL!
Ta - checked all that but that coil aint right never seen that before and it is internal Wierd!! Will get a spare or carry a spare set up as above. Was going to bang the blue coil on but dont want to damage any other ign components. Will keep an eye on the dissy components in the mean time. Back to points?????? - lets see. got a bag full of dissies and a few coils so must have something that will work if needs be (got a nice shiny 009)
I get this with my golf... Finally got is all swapped over from V-belt alt to the multi-V from the mk3 golf, as I'd been struggling with squealing belts that only last 6 weeks before they've stretched out!! Awesome job, no more squeals - Bliss Then my RH indicators start blowing out the fuse for no apparent reason... traced that back to some old tow bar wiring left in the boot... lopped that out, problem solved Then I'm driving along and my charge light comes on.... turns out that the plug on the side of the alt had a bit of damage, and it's been vibrating and snapped the exciter terminal inside the alt... Sorted that, and now my exhaust is chattering on the underside of the car It's never-ending sometimes!! Keep at it dude, you'll get there
Hope you get your problems sorted Dicky... You'll get there in the end, they just like to test our patience... Don't let it win... Haha
Burnt rotor - a quick google suggests a) poor voltage supply to coil b) incorrect or over-gapped plugs c) bad engine earth Incorrect plugs/gaps seems favourite leading to too higher voltage spark stressing the coil and buring the rotor. Most people seem to have had success merely by changing the plugs, but obviously then changing the damaged coil and rotor arm as well.
