  1. Dont be silly its an aircooled lawnmower ::)

  4. I have a 73 and I am running 14 inch stock rims with 195/75r14 tyres all around. I have a 3 inch drop in the front and it rubs. I want to install boomerang plates in the rear too but would like to sort out the tyres first. Any suggestions? I was thinking of 185/60r14 for the front not sure for the rear. I don't want to gear out either.

  5. Why install plates when it can just be lowered on splines...

Probably takes an extra 10/15 minutes per side to do, and you're saving money and there's no risk of failure... Whereas those horseshoe plates have had bolt failures...

  6. what offset are the wheels? If you've gone from stock wheels to low ET aftermarket that will have pushed the wheel further out in the arch, add in the extra width you've got from the dropped spindles and you'll have moved the wheel a whole heap further out in the arch.. ie closer to the dog-leg and the hump in the tub. Going back to stock wheels (or at least wheels with stock-ish ET) would help.

If your wheels are ET20 5.5 (a popular aftermarket size) they with the wider spindles it's effectively made then Et10. Compared to a stock wheel and tyre its almost 30mm further out in the arch.

At least the Gaz coilovers have adjustable spring preload so I was able to go up about 20mm and have stiffer suspension following a PO cut'n'twist lowering.

  8. Mike - what's the ride like on the gaz coilovers? Are those the ones with adjustable damping?

The ride is quite hard compared with a stock bus. And you can tweak the damping on a little knob, as well as the spring preload with some lock nuts on the body of the shock.

I can go over speed bumps in a 20 area at the speed limit and not rub. Thats lowered about 80mm.
