  3. Can anyone give me accurate measurements of these brackets please ? I can probably get sets made by one of the metal pressing supplier I visit at a fraction of the price ;D I would need overall dimensions / hole ctrs / angles

  4. They look to me as though they are just a fake gutter you could make your own to your own design and then just a flat plate on the inside with the roof sandwiched between them bolted all the way through. I may be wrong though ;)

  5. I can go one better if you can wait a week at least...

Is Quarry Bank = the Mill? I'm other side of Manchester if it is, you can borrow a bracket...
We're off away this wkend, then Action next but after that I could remove one and cover holes for a short period

  7. I can maybe take a rule and measure Mark's at RTTH , maybe even do a rubbing for the angles (unless I can find my combination protractor tomorrow morning)

  10. No worries, I can still do it if you want? I'll just bang one in the post, let me know if you don't get sorted at RTTH

  11. I got the Yakima brackets on eBay.com for a lot less & the postage was reasonable, I got the wide body ones. :)

  13. Hi, I got the Yakima brackets after reading this thread a while ago and they work great. I will post a picture when I get home (in Cornwall currently). I fitted mine lower down the Westy roof so needed slightly higher lift roof bars. Thule make the best ones I could find and have three types of foot available for gutter mounted bars. The Yakima brackets simulate roof guttering. I got the feet that give a 20cm lift and they work fantastic. thukembars come in a variety of widths. Think mine are the 150cm ones.

Only two issues with the install:
The Yakima brackets are from the USA and have an imperial size of coach bolt to attach them that is somewhere between M6 and M8. The bolts are a bit long and I found were tricky to cut to length without damaging the threads. I replaced the with M6 ones from B&Q which for some odd reason I could shorten more easily.

Second, you need to unload the bars if there is anything much on them before you lift the roof as the combined weight is proper heavy. Tough to lift never mind whether the roof supports will cope. I have a roof box on at the minute and the roof lifts fine with it empty.

  15. Sorry, only just saw your Q's...

I didn't drill it, they were on when we imported it. The washers on the coachbolts look to have been 'shaped' especially...

As for the bars, they're stock Thule square bars, for commercial vans. Any dealer will assist, even Halfords

  16. The domestic Thule bars are easier on the eye. If you look online you will see that they do three different heights of feet that work with their standard square section bars. I went for the middle height ones that have the bars 20cm above the fake rain gutter brackets and they work perfectly. Halfords don't stock them but can order them. I went to a roof rack specialist in Leicester and got them off the shelf

  17. Sorry, wasn't clear in reply, it was late...

I have the stock thule Square bars - 150cm. They're not the 'commercial' bars, you're right they are a bit of an eyesore those. The bars were sold to me as 'the length you'd need for a light goods van'. I got the lot from Halfrauds, using a trade card, worth checking to see if they do carry them?

As for the feet, I just checked in the garage and they're the 369 foot. The lad in the store let me take them out to the carpark to try them out.

  18. My 20cm lift ones are the Thule 952 fitted to a 150cm bar same as yours

  19. My roof rack brackets fitted, I may get another pair on the front & another on the rear at a latter date.
