Is it feasible to fit a roof rack to a westy roof ? anyone done this ?

  1. I am toying with the idea of getting a roof tack made (unless someone knows of a company that makes them) to fit on top of the westy roof, I have a front hinged and would like some additional storage space for when I do extreme sports (kite buggying) It arrived this morning and is quite large, so in order to not infringe on our existing storage, the roof idea seems a viable option........so............

Anyone know if this has been done before ? any tips / advice much appreciated.

(I have assessed the feasibility of roof access, and I believe with the addition of a ladder that loops over the rear luggage rack, I can climb onto he roof to access the front roof rack, also, if I get it made from lighter SS tube, then I don't think it will add too much weight to make the roof hard to lift)

    Thoughts please

I have seen brackets that attach to the roof which in turn hold a 'standard' roof rack.

you can fit a roof rack - indeed someone was selling it including brackets that reinforce the westy roof on the old forum before it died.

  10. I got brackets that allow a standard roof rack to be fitted & I seen awesome ones on a T25 westy the weekend. :)

  11. You'll be wanting a 'Yakima Widebody' set then, there the brackets that bolt to the poptop and allow a 'normal' roof rack to be fitted.

I have some on my Westy, just use std Thule feet and bars to transport all manner of long, mainly floaty craft, on 'em.

They are available US way, but if I remember right postage was more than the cost of set?

    I'll go find the link...

  18. I remember seeing the 2 arm roof rack with slightly longer arms which bolted onto the gutters and sat just above the original roof rack.
