  4. This is the type of rack I'm looking for, Fits over the static part of a Westfalia roof.

Anyone got an idea of where to get one?

But why would you want to install a roofrack over an existing roofrack?

  7. Fair enough, you will be easy to spot on the road too as "man with two roof racks". If anyone is interested I have now fitted a pair of gas struts to help raise the roof and it makes opening it with a roof box fitted WAY easier.

  8. Can we get a "how to" with regard to the gas struts please?!Be interested to see what your approach was...

  10. Hi again, managed to get the info on the gas strut kit I used. I ordered it from GoWesty in California and it was $149 plus shipping and taxes

That said you could probably source struts and brackets in the UK based on my install I guess. The kit is for type 25s but works well on Bays, you don't have the roof indentations to go off as they show in their how to video. The brackets are fitted by installing rivnuts into the roof of the bus and simple boys into the pop top. In the position shown in my photo the roof needs to be lifted maybe a foot and then the gas struts gently raise it up fully. Just push tHe H bar over and you are sorted. Needs a pull to lower it but pretty easy still.

Let,e know if you want me to measure anything I you fancy fabricating brackets or sourcing stuff yourself in the UK
