I based my Art exam on him, in a roundabout way. Passed with an A-.

  4. The BBC is basically the Guardian with radio transmitters. Everybody in tears the other day after hearing that shops in Islington had completely run out of organic tofu. Malcolm and Cressida were inconsolable :(

  5. To be honest as expected
    the bbc is in mourning,:(
    for a long serving colleague

And your "nancys boys".. were personal friends of the deceased for 40 years, o_O

As he had just made lunch plans with Ken Bruce and others to celebrate his MBE, I think we can assume Steve Wright's death was sudden and very unexpected. If that happened to one of my colleagues, let alone one of my friends, I'd be in bits.
I gave up regularly listening to Radio 2 a few years ago, but dipped in now and again as I don't have DAB in my car for 6Music.... Steve Wright was a constant from back in the days of growing up and Radio 1..... he will be very much missed by those who listened, so for those who actually knew him it must be terrible.

Sorry to upset you but I've had close friends and relations die from many causes including accidents and suicides but hey, life goes on. If the BBC presenters were so upset, they should have been put on compassionate leave rather than forced to work.

I was surprised to see Mr Wright's death headlining the ten o' clock news. I've never listened to him and don't even know what he looked like. I think the BBC is overreacting to the fate of one of their own. Compared to what's happening in Ukraine, Gaza and just about every other hotspot in the world, I and I'm sure many others don't give a monkey's about him.

That's my opinion and you are welcome to disagree.

I haven't heard any of it but it sounds fair enough to me. He might have gone on a few decades past his sell by date but I used to listen in the 80's on site and we would be peeing our pants laughing at the characters some days. Mick and Keef. lol

Blimey, you must be a fun person to have at a funeral. I'm guessing you don't get asked to write many eulogies ??!

  12. My thoughts exactly.

I didn't realise the BBC had organised an all-day blubb-fest.

I cannot help but think we havnt heard the full story of Steve Wrights death , yet. I understand he never got over the sad death of his mum , he lost the love if his life in the form if his radio show after 24 years , his marriage had broken down . I think he will hit the headlines again in a couple of weeks over his death.

This thread has become rather strange and depressing .
It presumably was intended for those who had gained pleasure from Wrighty.
To read posts such as “ I don’t know what he looks like” and “ never listened to him” …linked to comments “ I don’t give a monkeys about him “ are in extremely poor taste. Perhaps the poster may wish to reflect.
For my part , as previously stated, I thought over 3+ decades he was brilliant. As @Ozziedog has mentioned, I too loved his 3.45 pm Friday ? Serious Jockin ( no G ) . Brilliant old and new tracks for about an hour without banal interruptions, very appreciated by his many, many listeners.

Perhaps, for the future, if you wish to disrespect somebody in a thread such as this …. Just don’t post and keep your “ thoughts “ to yourself.

That would be terribly sad, but it would explain the outpouring of grief from his colleges and the lack of fact in reports about his death. No short term illness, no reports of an heart attack etc. Blimey I feel a bit sadder now thinking along those lines!

You may be right , but we all have or have had our dark moments. These really should not make headlines unless in the public interest .Which does not mean the opportunity for media to sell space. …….some hope
