  1. No that's to check other vehicles if you've been in an accident.

    To check yours it's freeeeeeeeee.

  2. ok cheers my bungle

  3. That's ok sir, it's a man thing.

Women just don't understand. They will still be reading the instructions on how to do it n:)

  4. errm betty has just rightly said you have 14 day cooling off period when purchasing insurance so is this why ?? also if you go to this site and yours is not on data base yet as per paul are you dobbing yourself in

  5. MID depends on the insurer how quickly they get it up there. Renewals are usually quicker. Good point about the 14 day cooling off, maybe that is the reason?
    :)

  6. If you ever get a letter from the MID, they helpfully point out that you are legally obliged to make sure your details are correctly recorded on it. Bit of a joke seeing as the only people allowed to update it are the insurers.

  7. I hope your brief is on speed dial making accusations like that on a public forum.

I know, how very dare I?

  9. Yes you are correct it is up to you to check however you cannot force the ins co to update in a timely manner and if they forget and it is outside office hours the Police will potentially seize your vehicle. It happened to me and when I showed my Ins Cert I was told they count for nothing as I could have printed it myself.

  10. Any excuse to slack off! Lazy arse! :D

  11. I wish

I've got a ton of work on at the moment, and a half day to sort out something that I deliberately spent 40 minutes on the phone sorting out over a week ago is not what the doctor ordered!! :p

I'm still tempted to invoice the DVLA for half a days work  See what they make of that one!! ;)

    paradox likes this.
  12. I got a nice letter from dvla telling me i wasnt insured even though i was.
apparently it wasnt on the MID
basically it said pay £50 and insure or sorn before jan 15th or £100 if paid before jan 31st.
if i dont pay they may prosecute me. apparently it is up to me to tell my insurers to update the MID.. yeah right!
so much for proving guilt, i have to prove my innocence.
i am now waiting to be prosecuted..

  13. I had an Insurance company tell me I'd committed fraud and they were cancelling my insurance, when I pointed out I'd sent them scanned documents provided by my previous insurer, and declared I'd be reporting the matter to the insurance ombudsman and demanding they produce the voice recorded telephone conversation of my application over the telephone, if they didn't send me a letter of apology confirming that my insurance hadn't been cancelled.

They capitulated, but you feel incredibly uneasy being accused of fraud.

God knows what would have happened to the Bay had I been driving it and it came up on ANPR.

  14. Thanks for the heads up paul:thumbsup:

  15. I got pulled in my Morris Marina ,I told the police I only live round the corner ,they said you`r not going anywhere  phoned my son up to bring the docs ,my insurance company had not entered it on the data base...

While we was waiting for my son, the police told me it would be better if I come clean...

we have a much better system in rural France no data base and no police...

  16. As it's all on ANPR now, couldn't you just fit the plates of someone you know to be legal?
I think the whole loss of tax disc thing is going to make such behaviour much easier?
Even if you get stopped, you'll get a producer for not having your licence etc on you then some poor sod will end up with a summons!

  17. Morris Marina?
    Had computers been invented?

  18. Plod eh? I was driving on the M6 in heavy traffic doing about 50mph in the left hand lane, when I noticed an unmarked vehicle with blue lights reversing up the hard shoulder, there was a blank matrix screen in the back window which started slowly scrolling U S E N E A R S I D E...at which point I had to look elsewhere as I was driving. The LGV 18 wheeler in front of me indicated left and pulled onto the hard shoulder, so as a Law Abiding Motorist, following Section 259 of the Highway Code, I also indicated left and moved onto the hard shoulder.

Lets set the stage here, I'm a retired Ambulance Paramedic, with a 30 plus year unblemished driving record, with ROSPA Advanced Driving Gold, I know the Highway Code.

After a few minutes the traffic cleared, and I had seen no reason why I had been told to drive on the Hard Shoulder, so I returned to the left hand lane, and started a discussion with my friend and front seat passenger as to the reasons why they had instructed us to drive on the hard shoulder, since neither of us could see a reason. During this discussion my friend revealed he'd seen another word slowly move across the matrix screen after N E A R S I D E, he saw L A N E, but still agreed that he'd have done exactly the same and moved over to the hard shoulder.

A few minutes after that we were in the middle lane, or overtaking lane of the M5, and I noticed blue lights again, and indicated and moved to the left hand lane, I looked again and the blue lights were still behind me, and it dawned on me that they actually wanted me to stop, so again I indicated left and this time pulled onto the hard shoulder right over to the left of the carriageway.

A copper appeared at the nearside window and asked me as the driver why I had driven along the hard shoulder, and without prompting, we both said 'on the instructions of a Police Officer'. Well, suffice to say, after a spell in the back of the Police Car, the self righteous robots declared I should know better and said they were reporting me to the Court, all I said was I was complying with your stupid sign in the back window, and followed an LGV onto the hard shoulder who had obviously read the sign exactly the same, because he'd also indicated a move to the nearside.

They claimed they had not seen the LGV, but didn't offer to show me the video of the forward facing camera on their car, which is what I was waiting for, so I didn't ask to see it, as I knew I was right and if this pair of prats wanted a day in court I'd happily go, so all I said in response is 'this is ridiculous'. They never gave me any paperwork, and I didn't need to produce, as I had hired the transit that morning and was carrying both parts of my Driving Licence.

They didn't believe a word, but suspect that they knew they were in the wrong, I know they are.

As I had to study the Police Roadcraft Manual in 1990, I got myself a copy, there's no section on Motorway Driving in the 1977 version I was using and was current at the time, they updated the manual in 1994, however, I obtained the latest I could find, dated 2007, and in that they do have a section on motorways, and the first sentence says 'The nearside lane is lane 1'.

In the Highway Code, there is only a left hand lane, and all other lanes are overtaking lanes, unless you're towing or driving an LGV on motorways with three or more lanes, when they refer to the vehicle not being permitted to use the right hand lane.

    There is no 'N E A R S I D E L A N E' on a motorway, they were enforcing the Police Roadcraft Manual, not the Highway Code, I'll win in Court.

However, despite this incident occurring on 19th November last year, and being told that I'd be notified by the Court within 14 days, I've heard nothing, if I hear nothing after six months they can't take me to Court anyway, so roll on 20th May 2014 I say. In any event, if I get a Summons I'll be writing to the Chief Constable, pointing out what they were enforcing on the motorway, and my friend is prepared to be a Witness if it goes to Magistrates Court, where I will reveal that I am a trusted member of society, at least in the eyes of West Mercia Police (not involved), since they issued me with a coterminous FAC/SGC, but apparently not trusted by a pair of Motorway Plod interested in enforcing the Police Roadcraft Manual.

Should be fun, I've never been to a Court except as a Witness in a Sudden Death, as an Ambulance Paramedic.
