Struggling to understand how the starter would engage/disengage on the home journey. BTW how many ribs you got on the gearbox?

 

It's not the sound cutting out it is the noise coming and going and towards the end it goes completely.

Just tried again and it is still there I think but comes and goes in short bursts. A lot like a stuck starter

And if water got in the contacts and shorted it out it could have pushed the starter cog in?
