Why does a type-4 need a spacer in a world where the same distributors are sold for both, e.g. accuspark?
Maybe the type 1 needs it too? This is the part I’m talking about: https://www.csp-shop.com/en/csp/distributor-spacer-905-205-123r-30405a.html
Not a type 4 thing..They all come with one new.. if you get one without used you can get the spacer.. ...no idea why if they all need a spacer it's not part of it.. perhaps it's like a big washer Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
“...delivered by us...” could mean that particular supplier include the spacer but 123Ignition do not Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Then I guess we get a petition started for VW Jim to bulk order a bunch of spacers Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Ah.. yes... that was copied from the link to the csp site above.. Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
It was new but not bought from 123. It was cheaper from Classic Auto Elec, possibly because it didn’t come with a spacer.
So how is it possible to push a distributor in further than it should/can go? The offset gear mates with its counterpart in the engine, I don't think it's possible to push that any further than "that's got it!"?
The spacer simply prevents the distributor bottoming out on the wobble joint. It will work without the spacer but if there is no clearance at the joint it could cause premature wear to the joint, the drive thrust or the distributor itself.
On a type 1 (presumably the same on a type 4), the 123 “bowl” doesn’t sit right down on the case, like a stock dissy. It sticks up a bit. You just need to make sure that it’s engaged with the driveshaft properly. A stock clamp, if it’s in good shape, holds it firmly. Mine’s been on for 10 years with no problems. It didn’t come with any kind of spacer. You could use a billet clamp, if it’s the right thickness.
Just a further bit of advice on my new 123 The curve number in the instruction booklet aligns with the example in this thread but is different in detail. For curve 2 - @snotty on the recommendation, shows curve 2 has a max advance at 3800rpm and 24deg advance... not 28-30 expected... Any thoughts? Thanks
