That's the problem though isn't it... most places that service type 4s generally don't have a clue when it comes to setting up the carbs... in fact some places don't have a clue on 16oo single carbs... I usually find that the idle circuit isn't doing anything, as someone has decided that the best way to set the idle speed is to wind on the throttle stop screw
That was only ever really on early 12/13/1500s though... lack of knowledge isn't really an excuse though, is it?
terrys beetles in ealing, seemed a nice bloke just called in on passing. Im gonna ring him Monday for more info on what the service includes
I find people are very specific and ask me to do what they want doing. Engine service was what I was refering to.
Ok so this might sound daft but what would a full service include? Im getting it done because we've a long trip to Devon in a months time, and thats for me to do a days course on vw maintenance and any other questions I might have. So after that I might know a bit more.
Do you know when it was last serviced ? Any service history ? If the oil etc was only changed 1000 miles ago it doesn't need doing again just cos you are going on a jaunt If nothing has been touched for years then it all needs a good going over. Are the fuel lines up to date not perished ? When was the gear oil changed ?. You get my point !!! Once you stick with a good garage they will know your bus and know what it needs doing when.
Full service should be full engine service Complete brake check Rear drums off All lights Steering, suspension Tyres Dash lights Gearbox check oil change in required The problem is when people ask for a service Do they mean a service or an engine service
Carb tuning is additional to standard servicing, checking setting idle speed is usually standard, but setting timing setting up carbs is generally on top
