When did a custom car become a hotrod , when i were a kid all you needed for custom car were a set of white walls and fury seat covers. Smart.
many many years ago I used to go to Doncaster Custom Show held at the race course, I must have just turned 17/18, I remember seeing a Bay window called Vanpire, it was red metal flake paint and crushed velvet inside. with a port hole window in the side . I'm sure I have seen a picture of it at a show over last couple of years too...crickey...old fart or what.
Its still doing the rounds, it was in the show and shine at vanfest 2011 , not my cup of tea ,but must be well built and still going strong,
I was planning my next build and this was to be a hot rod bay = My background is from street roads and drag racing - Plan - tintop van - remove all the floor - tube frame chassis with superbell drilled I beam hung on an elipitacal spring and hairpins - Mid mounted sbc driving through a powerglide to a very narrowed 9" axle tubbed then drop the body back over as low as you dare go/ leave body and paint patina / all ally interior panels - play time begins
Run airducks from under the floor - also via the fresh air grille and via the bumper put long slots in - you wouldnt need a propex to keep you warm
