Holland & Belgium recommendations please

Stayed in Amsterdam for three nights. Train spotting was showing at the local cinema, so quite a while ago. Anna Frank house is eerie place to visit. The Reich museum is a great place to see. And the cafes...


I think we stayed at Ledensplien square,in a little hotel next to the Americana hotel, or something like that. There’s a Bulldog cafe there,a Hard Rock Cafe, a Hagendaz shop and a Rubber club(?). If you go to the flower market in dam square,don’t buy the tulip bulbs in boxes. The picture on the front of each box, show different colour tulips. The pics are photoshopped. ALL the bulbs that grow, come out yellow!

 

Did you try the Tulips and Hamster Jam?

 

I'm half Dutch, and have family over there.
Check out the beautiful beaches around Cadzand in Zeeland if you are visiting Bruges.

I've been to Amsterdam a few times, so i think i'm sorted for the Amsterdam leg of the journey, now that i have the campsite recommendation.

I'm not going for at least a month so look forward to even more suggestions

I may not have any choice as i'll have to pass through it to get home!

 

I've used Camping Memling at Brugge a few times now, walk into the old town from there or take a bicycle! I tend to book ahead here as quite small and often full!

For Amsterdam, I stayed by the beach at Zaandvort and got a train into the town. Train was cheap, clean and easy...Nothing like a regular train tbh.... The camping pitches are sheltered by dunes and the neighboring race track often has fun things on if that's your thing.

Thanks for the Brugge campsite.
Camping in the dunes sounds good to me, especially if the train to the Dam is only 30 minutes

@Lasty Gaasper Camping looks like its about 30 minutes into Amsterdam as well - you've done both, which do you prefer?

 

I liked the dunes but a bit out in the sticks if i remember.
Gaasper was a few minutes walk to the metro and 15 minutes into the centre but never felt happy leaving the van although they did have good security - probably for good reason as it is pretty urban .

Knowing you , I'd head for the dunes but it was 10-12 years ago so check it's still ok as the illegals tend to doss in areas like that ??

Sure it'll be fine , whichever you decide on - I'm just an old sceptic !!

Ferries to Holland are an absolute ******* take on price

One way from Hull is £450
From Newcastle its £600+

Looks like ill have to drive 4 hrs to Harwich to get a much more reasonable ferry price.

Plan is to do a round trip where we enter Europe via Holland and leave via France

 

We do the tunnel then turn left. Normally works out cheap if you use Tesco points.

 

From Sheffield - Its a long way to the tunnel and then back up to Holland though.

Hence why i fancied Hull to Holland, then onto Belgium then France for the ferry to UK before driving North.

I may look into it and come up with an alternative round trip

 

That's a great plan - my kind of adventure..

That's a real shame .
Hull to Zeebrugge/Rotterdam used to be reasonable and very handy when I lived in Leeds . I remember getting a deal in July maybe 10 years ago and it cost more in fuel to get to Hull than the price of the ferry - bonkers !!
Have you tried calling them and speaking to a real person ??
Do they know who you are ??
Crippling the spirit of adventure - just not on !!

Took the Zeebrugee - Hull ferry home last night

We had an amazing trip

And you bought a windmill? You’re going to have to secure it to your roof a lot better than that....3 or 4 ratchet straps at least I’d say. It’s gonna look ace in your back garden though

Anyone know the score with emission zones & historic vehicles in Belgium/Germany cities ... do you need stickers?
