Don't know about Germany but In Belgium: You need something in Antwerp and Brugge. I got the bus into Brugge and didn't bother with Antwerp as they were being arseholes about historic vehicles not meeting emission regulations. You could easily just avoid driving near the centre of Antwerp though
This was how our trip route turned out in the end Sheffield Harwich The Netherlands: Delft Meijende Haarlem Volendam Edam Schagen Den Helder Lauwersoog Camping Lauwerszee, Vierhuizen Groningen Camping Thyencamp, Laaghalerveen Giethoorn Arnhem (John Frost Bridge, not too far for the camper van) Germany: Mönchengladbach (What a name) Belgium: Kelmis The border of Belgium, Germany & the Netherlands then onto Luxembourg (4 countries in one day) Luxembourg: Uppersauer natural park Esch Sur Sure France: Chateau Thierry Mayenne Belgium: Ypres Jabbeke Brugge Zeebrugge for the ferry back to Hull
What is and where do get "something" to get into Brugge fancy bit of that on way back for chocolates and beers Sent from my SM-T580 using Tapatalk
https://www.lez-belgium.be/en.html You can't drive anything much into the centre of Brugge. Easy to walk or get the public bus in
I drove my ’72 V8 MGB into the centre of Brugge a few weeks ago, no problem parking in the underground carpark. The LEZ applies in Antwerp and Brussels; Ghent and Mechelen will set up their LEZ next year (2020), Wallonia from 2023. https://www.lez-belgium.be/en.html
Its ridiculous that historic vehicles have to pay to enter LEZ (Low Emission Zones). We should be exempt!
I don't think historic give off that much more exhaust fumes than some modern vehicles. Keeping vehicles for a long time is better than environmental destruction caused by some modern vehicle production.
Might be too late for recommendations but I travel Belgium quite a lot for work and while Brugge is nice, I can highly recommend Gent. Lovely, picturesque town with loads of history, nice old buildings, castle, a big old river running through it and most importantly loads of great pubs, one of which serves Geneva which they say is how Gin started...
Got stoned in a cafe in Amsterdam in the 90’s. Trainspotting was at the local cinema. We ate ice cream at Leidseplein square at the haggendaz shop next to burger king, just down from the Hard Rock Cafe, around the corner from a Bulldog cafe. Great weekend.
We are now back. I will try & do a trip report. Ghent was on our list to visit, but we ended up doing a massive de tour from our roughly planned route and decided to save it for another time. We also sacked off Amsterdam, it was so hot when we were in the Netherlands we decided a bigger crowded city wouldn't be that much fun. Plus it was a place we had been before, so we concentrated on new places.
It was an amazing 3.5 weeks. I wish i was still away. I miss sleeping in the bus. House seems really big now i'm home We really don't need all this stuff that we have
Ive got the holiday blues too ! Inspiring to see the distance covered , I’m getting more confidence in going further in my bay. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
