the dvla information is based on date of registration , https://www.gov.uk/historic-vehicles/eligibility they only use the build date when the first registration was abroad
Exactly and I've got the first registration paper work for it U.K. Index plus I've got the first U.K. Mot used in that process and the first issued v5! But now they've conflicted internally they won't accept anything I have, even though they issued it and they're legal docs. Especially the index allocation doc. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
when mine was registered the first registration date , which they used but didn,t take as proven was the beginning of the year it was built so when yours was registered it shouldv,e been down as 01 01 1976 but of course it depends who,s sat at the desk when the first uk registration takes place ( the first uk registration date is immaterial )
This was my V5. I changed it to historic in April 2016. No hassle. Sorry about it being upsidedown Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Tried to do mine this morning and failed abysmally. The post offices I tried had no idea what to do and then their system said no. The second call to DVLA confirmed that they have no record of the date of manufacture and until they do the post office system would show the same. Looks like I won't be tax free until i get a birht cert.
As i understand it the DVLA system has boxes for 'date of manufacture' and 'date of registration'. Imported vans are generally issued with a V5 using the first registration date as that's the date on the info that is submitted. Sometimes the DVLA use that date for the date of manufacture as well and sometimes they don't. If they don't, they need a birth certificate to prove its elegible.
Rob, I found out the hard way as well. Just joined, followed their link to help with birth certificate and their page now states the follwoing: 'Age Certificate issued by Volkswagen Owners Club (GB) The DVLA will no longer accept age certificates from a club unless the manufacturer a) no longer exists or b) the manufacturer states in writing that they cannot determine the vehicle's age. If either of the above are the case then the owner can apply to the club. In the case of Volkswagen vehicles the process now is to go on-line to the Volkswagen museum at http://automuseum.volkswagen.de/ use the 'Certificate Generator' (Zertifikats-Generator) from the menu on the left of the page and fill in the necessary. There is a charge of €50 for this service. Sorry but these changes have been brought about by the DVLA. Should you have any difficulties in obtaining proof of age for your VW, the Volkswagen Owners Club (GB) can help. This is a service offered to members only. All enquiries should be addressed to: Rod Sleigh 28 Longnor Road Telford TF1 3NY Initial telephone enquiries between 9.00am and 8.00pm weekdays may be made to 0//. Ensure that you quote your membership number in any correspondence with Rod.' Their costs are slightly out of date, €65 for certificates, €40 for data sheets or €90 for both.
The V5 states that, 'Dan's Bus' was first registered/used overseas. Declared manufactured in 1976. (I supplied the Tax office in Truro with original invoice for the Bus, and the Nigerian road tax disk from 1976.) First registered 11/12/89 Body Type, Motor Caravan. The DVLA today, refunded me nearly £40 which appears to be the 'pro rata' refund of my remaining road fund tax, from the 3rd of April. Their web site says they only refund complete months. Tony
I've found a uk email address for a VW dept that I hope will help me with this disparity. I've given them all my details and thrown myself at their mercy. I'm not prepared to pay €80+ to vag museum and wait 5+ months. This is all down to a DVLA mistake from one department to another and a data input error. By the time VAG respond it'll be 40 yo even by DVLA's mistaken date but I'll be £70 odd worse off PP refunded my membership money from joining the U.K. Vw club. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I'm hoping that if they're willing to help that they'll post me a letter Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
i emailed them - got an email virtually straight back "we,ll send a certificate soon" which they sent in the post but they emailed one as well which i sent to the dvla and they didn,t charge me anything and it states -vin no- model type - production hanover germany - delivery date 07 08 1975 - delivery to usa the dvla were happy with that
Big fat update!!!!!!!! I got a letter from Vw type approval and it stated my bus was built in May 77 so although was I was a bit peed off I'd have to wait till 04-2018 for Historic class it was the definitive answer. To have the V5 updated I sent the letter and V5 off to the DVLA. Today I've just got back from a little break away in the bus and guess what was waiting for me? Two letters in brown envelopes. One said that it thanked me for my VED application and enclosed my VW letter. I'm thinking "eh? I never applied for VED" The other letter was my V5 still stating 01-01-1977 as the 1st registration and tax class HISTORIC So I get the official VW proof that I'm not entitled to historic until 2018 and the silly ejits give me it Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
