Hi all I'm off to the Post office today to change to historic as my reg is 01-01-1977, now I know that the first week of '77 is eligible but I can't find the information other than off of unofficial websites. Can anyone out there point me in the right direction? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
I did mine earlier and got the V5 back saying Historic Vehicle, also got a cheque for the residual road tax then in the same post a reminder to tax Tilly. Logged onto DVLA and it would not accept the code on the reminder, then put in the reg number the code off the V5 and up flashed the message you have now taxed the vehicle up to 01 April 2018 cost a big fat zero Love it

Hmm not the experience I was expecting, Luton main post office and they didn't have a clue!! In the end I just wrote historic in the blue bit, bought an envelope off the cashier and posted half the v5??? They argued firstly that it wasn't possible and secondly that the government site was wrong and it's nothing to do with the post office Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
This has gone horribly wrong, I rang the dvla and they're saying that writing in that information and posting as advised by the PO lady was wrong. He then said that their records say 31-12-77 for my bus but the log book says 01-01-77 so as far as he's concerned I wait till next year! They've added a year even though the V5 says different. When I did mine I sent the amended V5 to the dvla and they sent it back and told me to take it to a licencing Post office, which I did. It was a village post office and they did it on the spot and sent the V5 to the dvla and 2 weeks later I got the new V5 back in the post. All done.
The person at DVLA is wrong. My V5 originally quoted date of first registration as 1st January 1976. I know for a fact that it was first registered later than that, because I have the original document. (It's an Australian import) I sent the V5 to DVLA in January 2016, together with a copy of their document INF34, and it came back after a week with the taxation class changed to historic.
Try another post office, did my mg last monday at our village one and no problem! Showed on thier site in 3 days as taxed untill next April. Contacted dvlc about cancel of direct debit and they said it will automatically cancel once the v5 has been updated.
The person at the dvla was reading from his computer. He said that despite what my log book says his screen is the info they will use so I have to wait another year. He said that it would have been because there must have been information missing when it was imported originally. So they've amended the records. I bought the bus in 2010 and that's when they sent me my v5 as a new owner. I've got the previous v5 which says 01-01-77 too. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Yes it does and so does the previous V5 it's the fella on the dvla helpline that says different as his computer says Dec 2017
