Dealer garages are around £100 ph plus vat around here , back street dives £30 per hour for cash and run of the mill places arounf £45 plus vat.. pretty sure there isn't 20 hours in connecting a few wires and hoses .. or was there more to it ..

Mot isnt a bad idea if its just gone back on the road after a resto, not a bad idea getting one every year to be honest ..

To me 900pounds is a hell
Of a lot of money for anything. But to just get an eñgine going is outrageous in my opinion .
As a member of the forum didn't you ask on here for someone to Bob around and look at it . Chances are someone with knowledge would have sorted it out in an hour with the exception of the world's greatest mystery of electrical wiring.
I don't know all the facts of what you had done but contrary to most I do think you been ripped off ,That's me speaking as one who probably couldn't get it going on my own but the helpful people on here soon offer advise and would have got there in the end .
TECHENDERS is a must port of call if all the stars align and work gets done but for the drinking and eating and chewing the fat .
There I've said my bit no offence meant and its great to have the van running

  7. In the first photo their is a stick on tag holding the fuel line to the fire wall.when it gets nice and warm in the engine compartment that will drop off and you will have flapping fuel pipes or FFP as it's more often called

How is the fuel line coming in to the engine bay behind the fan housing Carl? If it's rubber hose poked through or over the tinware, it's likely to chafe through in no time. It should be Steel pipe through the tinware, and down the side of the fan housing.

Its rubber pipe poked through the hole. Ive bought the correct steel pipe and the grommet for that pipe. Will buy new fuel pipe, new filter and some hose clips to sort that issue.
Will also get new air pipes and a t peice for the breathers.
How can i cure the FFP syndrome? Can you get a screw on hook? Just dont want to hit the tank lol.

  11. Nah, basically i lost my licence for drink driving. (2 points over, i wasnt smashed) so i lost my licence and had to move pretty quickly to be able to get to work. So the bus was on the backburner. Thought id pay this guy to sort it out for me whilst i moved and sorted myself out. But thats backfired. Hahaha

Im not bitter, im pretty sure i got mugged off but i dont care that much now. Just want to make it safe to drive around in this summer

If you go for fitting the filter under the tank, there should be either plastic clips, or metal tabs to hold the fuel line in place. In the engine bay, if you reinstate the Steel fuel line, you won't have any hose to flap about, as the Steel bit fits snugly round the fanhousing, and you just have a couple of inches of rubber connecting it to the pump.

  13. ^this. With the filter under the tank (where it should be), there should be a couple of plastic "omega" clips on the "ceiling" to support the fuel hose over the transmission. If they're missing, you can use a couple of push-in cable tie saddles to support the hose with broad cable ties.

The main thing is as you say , you got your van up and running and YOUR happy and given your set of circumstances you did whats best for you , i wasn't criticizing you and your choice , i was looking at it from my prospective as a tight sod who will happily sit in a cafe without a drink whilst my wife has one simply because £3 is a rip off price for a cup of tea. i suppose i was also giving praise to the folk on here that are more than willing to offer advice (and some humor ) to most peoples problems.
Money is hard to come y but there's no shortage of people (not least the government) that will willingly take every last penny from you not necessarily because they deserve it but because they can take(scam) it from you as perhaps shown by the scene tax in our interests in the Vw buses we drive , Perhaps the worst example i can give is the surcharge(tax) that the government put on a warm pie from a shop , you just wonder what kind of a moron sat in a office and came up with that -but i digress and go off topic

Looking at the pipework, this seems relevant...

Bring it to Techenders, all the bits seem to be there but in the wrong places...

    My ten cents worth,
    Mot,
Brilliant as said above for a recent resto. Mines exempt but I still mot-it every year just for another set of skilled eyes running over stuff that I might not have seen .
    Fuel filter ,
Two schools of thought here, or maybe more:), in the engine bay where you can see it and visually check it and remind yourself to change it annually or bi annually or whenever your personal schedule for pipes etc slots in with your oil changes etc. Or underneath where it’s ‘’much much safer’’ but could possibly get clobbered by Road detritus or even totally forgotten about, and that’s when they is danger mouse.:)
Hopefully with these vehicles doing a lot less miles than when new,and their value nowadays making serious maintenance more plausible as opposed to ten or fifteen years ago when they were worth a lot lot less in money hence they were run on a shoe string in a heck of a lot of cases.
Ripped??? I don’t think so. We all would like our whole van rebuilt, re wired, re sprayed, wax oiled and refitted out for cheapso, but peeps got bills to pay and these ain’t run of the mill no more.

Ozziedog,,,,,,,, I don’t see many engine bays that are 100% to everybods :)

  17. I also think its also about driver confidence. You've obviously spent a lot of money and time on this lovely bus. If that engine with the work tht has been done on it was in my bay I'm not sure I would be confident driving it without the various safety issues tht have been discussed rectified. It would take a little bit away from the enjoyment of driving it in my opinion.

Its close to ok. I dont see safety issues, more reliability reducing issues from random pipe fitting... all the bits are there but in the wrong order...

Now that’s exactly how it is when I am off camping. If I pull up and get my gazebo up, then there’s never a problem. BUT, if I stop and chat to anyone and grab a beer with them whilst chatting, then we get this unusual camping effect of all the bits but deffo deffo deffo the wrong order .

Ozziedog,,,,,,, nearly summer and Stella time ;):);)

  20. Had 5 minutes spare earlier so i had a look at the engine bay, sorted the breather pipes, heater pipes and dodgy headlight.

I have one pipe left thats coming off the inlet manifold that now goes nowhere. Anyone know where ots supoosed to go?

This is how it os at the moment, i just need to get upder it and replace the fuel line, then change the front brake pads :)
