I was reading the comments following the article in the Guardian bout the Glasto tickets......have to say there was something very sour grapes-ish about some of the comments from folk who didn't get tickets, while others were pretty matter of fact about it, hey we didn't get tickets but well done to yous who did. Having been in 2002 and 2005 we've stuck to medium/smaller festivals ever since, (when we could afford to go that is!). In 2002 you could still buy tickets a few months before the event, not sure what happened to make it such a quick seller these days...as some will remember, you could buy tickets in Virgin and HMV. Glastonbury will be an absolute blast for those who got tickets, its so much more than the Pyramid stage..... I do think a preregister, and then random ballot kind of thing would be a good way to go but that up to the organisers.... Anyway, next year its Just So for us, and I might even mosey on back to Cropredy....If you got tickets, good on yer :)

  3. Didn't try this year. Will be doing the annual pilgrammage to the Isle of Wight Festival instead.

However a friend always goes via his friend's "locals ticket" and has invited me, so perhaps I'll be there, albeit with a tent not a van.

am I correct in thinking there have been no bands actually announced? this to me says it's got to be something that many people are booking just to say "i'm going to glasto" what is the world coming to.

They never release the band details before ticket sales.
Its got nothing to do with "look at me, I'm going to Glasto". Its more to do with the fact people know it WILL be amasing.

ok fair one I didn't know that, personally I wouldn't buy if I didn't know the only "festival" type of gig I've done is "madstock" when madness headline their own festivals, the bands are usually good if that's your thing, I saw ian dury and Morrissey amongst others one year.

I just want to get back to the Cropedy Festival again. At least I know I don't have to join the hoi polloi at that festival, it's not what you know it's who you know ;)

It has got tame but the fact it sold out so quickly shows its doing something right
It does not really matter what bands are headlining as its bigger than the headliners there is so much to do and see without seeing a band.

  9. There are about 30 stages - they would have to go out of their way not to have some bands you like playing

Glastonbury is one of those festivals that can get away with it. There are so many stages and acts, there really is more than something for everyone!
Over 1,000,000 pre-registrations and sold out in 1 hour 27 minutes. They must be doing something right!

  11. I appreciate I slagged it off earlier and its a long time since ive been but i would go now if i could. I think its the best thing ive ever used my van for!

  12. 4 or 5 years ago - I went to Glastonbury and did not see a single live band playing over the weekend.
There is Soooooooooo much more to it than just the stuff you see on TV.

It's one of those weekends where everyone gets something different from it ... and there is NOTHING on Earth like it ... the sheer size of it is incredible.
200K people (inc punters, crew, bands etc) - it is bigger than a lot of villages and towns people live in.

I love it there ... always have - and I imagine i always will

The first time you go it really does blow your mind how big it is!

Shouldn't you be saving for a new van ;)

  15. That's exactly what I like about it. They don't announce the bands, so you don't get a crowd full of specific fans, who are more interested in seeing one or two bands than having a nice shared festival experience.

As is, people buy tickets to Glastonbury because it's a lovely week with lovely people, and if it so happens that somebody great is playing then fantastic :)

And as every year, I shall be working ;-) hopefully I'll be able to drive the camper straight on and camp slap bang in the middle of greenfields... we shall see :)

I drove my bus to the local Miners welfare club and saw Showaddywaddy, well only one original member was left and then on the under card saw Blacklace singing agadoo, it was a once in a lifetime event that i'll remember for ever and i slept in my bus in the carpark so beat that :)
