Looks ok under the extra layer. Bit of a giveaway that you'd been stitched up is the seams have been filled round the bottom of the van as well (as the funny shape). If it looked "wrong" before, it's going to classy (the right shape) when you get it back. It makes ALL the difference. I hoope this cheers you up - this one was blobs of seam sealer and rivets every 3" round the edges. At least yours was welded on!
Do you know, we had a feeling that it was going to be like that Every faith in 81a, John knows his stuff and he advised us to get all the lower parts. That's all that had been welded on first resto. So now we know it will be welded properly and solidly, no bodge (first time round we removed fist sized lumps from the rear corners) or tin foil filler : So, as scary as those pictures are, I'm actually quite relieved that it's going to be cut out and made good the right way
Hi ladys. from reading the forum i am under no pressure then. if i go bald worrying over your van, you 2 are in trouble. don't forget the biscuits and sweets cos Al's getting thin, and Robs getting some practice in for filling your van DOH! I have just found out he's using a builder's cement trowel as a wind-up!!! julie
you'll need industrial strength filler for wilma, it's a rockin' wagon so make sure it's flexible on the joints.
Daren't go into the kitchen... it's like a flour tornado in there! Moira's baking up a storm to keep our lads fed
Wilma sounds like my bug after a 'specialist' replaced the heater channels, A pillars and rear 1/4's. I found 3 layers of metal under the front arches instead of 1. Redoing the work myself as it put me off letting anyone touching it. John is the only specialist who has worked on her thats done a decent job, though 13 years on she's looking a little worse for wear again.
We visited John today to have a look at Wilma, bless him John wanted to cover her up to make sure that we didn't get too upset. We saw some of the vileness that Wilma was made of - three layers of rust, hanging together with at least half an inch of filler To add insult to injury the last guy told us that he used no filler! Now we find that the filler and panel on panel on panel has probably added to the insulation : No wonder we were always snug as a bug in Wilma ;D
The more I see of this, the more I think your fuel consumption and acceleration is going to be soooooo much better once this is done, because your bus will weight about half a ton less. Maybe this thread should be re-named "Wilma goes on a New Year diet"
