Gate security advice please

    i need to sort the sheds out too but to pose another obstacle at the gate would help save my pots and garden furniture

  5. cool... it's knowing the names/terms for stuff that i've been mostly struggling with. so i need a long throw gate lock with security screws :thumbsup:

    is it something i could fit myself?

    Security screws or shear bolts would do the job.

    On mine the gate is thick enough that the mechanism is affixed on the inside via wood screws and only the round lock bit is visible on the outside.

    Just enough of a deterrent to put off the opportunist scrote but probably wont put off the determined burglar. For protection against the latter I recommend a big dog.

  11. We go out front door n lock back door , bike put round front before you go simples :hattip:
     
  12. would have to take bike through the tiny house as i live in a terrace... and the back is the nearest to village/town/ moors etc :D
     
  13. where the big hole in the wall is (top), the gate is less than 1/2" thick. suppose i could plant another bit of timber on?

    the funny shaped metal thing would be better to use but don't think it comes out far enough for bolt catchment :(

  16. ooh, i do have a mighty fine selection of sledgehammers (different sizes), lump hammers and mallets :thinking:

    but not sure i fancy sitting up night after night :oops:

    Barn, the slots in the screw are only for taking the screw out. Hammer for fixing 'em :D

  19. Bugger.... just opened shed with only two hinges out of three fixed... now only one centre one :(

    I give up. Somebody wake me when my charmed life begins :(

  20. Leave it unlocked then wire the handle to the mains that way anyone who tries the handle wont try again :eek:
