I have been looking around for a good quality fuel pump ( 12volt ) i would like a Bosch but they dont seem to do anything low pressure , on the bosch web site they list a pump for , Bus , Transporter ,Vanagon 0580463016 75 ltrs /hr 250 Kpa i guess its for fuel injection
This is the reply i have just had from Bosch Hi, Thank you for your enquiry. We provided the fuel pump for the 2.1 injected T3, but it is most unlikely we supplied any electric pumps for the carburettor fuelled vehicles. I can find no reference of any applications where we have done so. I suspect you want to convert from a mechanical pump to an electric one? But in reality we cannot advise what part would be suitable for such a conversion. Your best option would be to consult a specialist, who may have already developed such a kit. One such kit may even use a Bosch pump, but it is not something officially endorsed by us. I hope this helps. it was blanked of when we got the bus , when i say blanked of the outlet was connected to the in let i presume the diaphram is kaput and it had a 12 volt pump fitted which is in the great fuel pump dump in the sky
Heritage do a new mech one now for the type4 engine, if you've still got the pump pushrod thingy in there (technical term) may be a neater solution?
Im slightly tempted to go down this route if i have the push rod thing or i might consider the one Paul Weeding recomended , even though it shows it with jubilee clips ,, but it does say its self regulating , from this i take it means its got some kind of flow switch and doesnt pump until the demand is there
I expect it'll have the push-rod. There is a school of thought that says the push-rod bisects an oilway and removing it effects the oil flow around the engine. Perhaps Paul Weeding can confirm this (the bisecting bit).
The jubilee clips are cheap tat... I think they went straight in the bin!! It runs at 3.5psi, I think that's what they mean, as it constantly runs unless it has some sort of bypass valve in it.... Another bonus is it is a sealed unit, so waterproof... unlike the cheap clacky facet pumps which aren't
It does bisect the oil way... but it is on the end of the lifter oil ways, and I think it is pinhole oiling, as there is a brass bush in there... I've not had a real close look at it
You won't notice the rotary pump at all, but the the facet ones... tickky, tickky, tickky... :thumbsdown:
Same dilemma for me on behalf of a customer. I'll get him the rotary one, it's on offer at VWH and cheaper than CoolAir (sorry BigRich). And free next day courier for me.
I could never get the bugger out on my westy engine. There must have been a burr on the rod, it would come out about an inch then stop. I expect i could have yanked it out, but I left the knackered pump on in the end. It had a pump from a Morris Minor in the engine bay. I was most surprised to find a petrol pump contained real sparking points!
i have this FAI rotary pump and when sat i traffic it makes that cack clack noise it replaced this one after i had water in the fuel and the pump ran dry
