Fuel Hose Type

  1. I have seen a few posts on here about fuel hose, can someone advise why the so called over braided stuff is no good?

(not meant to be a daft question, just not sure).

The over braiding means you don't notice when the pipe itself turns to dust...

  3. ok so if this is built to a standard, are we saying that's no good (for example DIN73379 TYPE B)?

  4. Which its likely to do or at the very least crack, after a year or two. Seems to suffer from ethanol degredation. Several mainstream VW suppliers used to/may still, sell the stuff. Unstated origin and not very often date stamped either, avoid like the plague .

  5. Nowt really wrong with braided stuff, except what's available these days tends to be sh*te.

  6. That is a great name for a band !

  7. But I would suggest that most people on here will inspect the hoses regularly, the stuff I have bought says its good for all fuels including unleaded and is stamped. So next question, why is the marine grade better?

  8. unfortunately the overbraid hose can literally last a couple of months... the majority of the stuff I've seen never has a rating on it!!

With the new ethanol content in petrol (now 10% as opposed to 5%) it means cheap hoses just rot away... You really need to get the correct rated twin wall hose in 5.5/5.6mm ID

  9. You need R9 fuel hose - it is rated to withstand modern fuels with the higher ethanol content.

  10. Interesting answers. I will get some of the R9, But why do the usual merchants for VW's sell this overbraided stuff (not all I appreciate), surely if it was so bad and dangerous they wouldn't sell it as the bad press if there hoses failed would be bad for business..am I being naïve here?

  11. Because, it seems, they don't care. Only answer I can think of.

  12. hmmmm would be interested to know what representatives of these merchants have to say...

  14. For every one owner who is familiar with hose specification there will be half a dozen who aren't, why should they be they rely on the supplier to know the fine detail...its called trust however when the supplier appears unaware of such things then there is a big problem. Van fires..attributed to poor maintenance...old vehicle etc. any evidence of a sub-standard fuel line has gone up in smoke anyway.

  15. Point taken all thanks :easter:

  16. There was one on a thread a while back ...... can't be bothered to look it up suffice to say after a close shave I stopped buying their fuel hose.

  17. Sound advice , i shall be seeking out the R9 before the bugcatcher gose back on the road.

  19. wasnt there a link on here a while back with the correct grade line

  20. Ordered the stuff now but then I read about the E10 fuel not being compatible with the older cars, have I missed the plot here or should I be using the premium stuff from now on?
