Firetec extinguisher purchase update

whats the difference in the units? am v interested but know nothing... (as bloody usual)

I def not an expert, but from what I have been able to gather......

First off you can choose between two types of extinguisher, AFFF Foam or Powder. I think there are pro's and con's of both, however Foam needs pretty much no maintenance, whereas Powder needs more - to quote the guy in response to how long before you would need to replace the cylinder "AFFF up to 5 years with virtually no attention. Powder, after 3 years but with maintenance every 6 months or 5000 miles. "

Then you need to decide where you want to mount it, there are some pictures in this thread or in this one on earlybay http://forum.earlybay.com/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=17143&hilit=BUY

Options for this are: Upright on LH chassis leg, horizontally on LH chassis leg or horizontally under engine compartment ‘roof’.

Then you can decide to have a switch to control a status LED if you wish. You can get a single acting pressure switch, for either a green or red led (which you need to buy separately), this will either light up when its armed and pressurised (green LED) or if you want a red led, will light up when the pressure is low, and therefore has been used/faulty pressure. I think you need to specify whether you want a green or red led setup when ordering.

Or you can have a double acting switch, which means you can have both styles of LED connected. Note, the setup doesn't come with the LED's, you will need to get these yourself, its just for the switch box you connect the LED's to. However i do not believe the cabling for these to be too difficult.

Finally you can get a stainless steel Chafegard spiral protection to tube, which goes around the hose to protect it. However the guy has said that we don't need that, as its just to protect the hose in more hazardous environments. You may ofcourse want it for looks, your choice.

Personally I've decided on AFFF extinguisher, a standard horizontal (fixing onto spare wheel metal) installation, and a switch for a Red LED.

Hope that helps a bit...... I believe the above to be correct, though when it turns up I may find I'm in for a shock! lol

just want the bus to be safe for everyone using it

No worries, to be honest I'm only 50:50 on the idea of the LED's myself. You could just install the extingusher and hose, and leave it like that - there is a dial on the cylinder which states the pressure to check it. At first my setup will probably just be that, and later on I will hopefully get around to installing an LED.

i'll check them out this evening and probably order one too.
was so worried when the engine was near screaming up a v steep, twisty turny hill and all i could think of was the pic of the bay on fire
peace of mind and safety of loved ones is worth it. hopefully, when i get the interior done, i'll be carrying my baby nephew in the back... way too precious cargo!!

Anyone sitting on the fence about this or wondering if they've missed the boat - no - you haven't.

You need to have a minimum of £131.76 ready to pay out (this represents a 40% discount).

You need a business address to have the unit delivered to (work from home addresses okay)

Once I send out the first 20 orders (which will be very early next week) I have another 10 days to submit additions to the order.

After that the price reverts to list price until the next 20 people show an interest

Have a good wedding Jen. Thanks again for all your hard work organising this. Can I just confirm that when I've fitted the extinguisher it prevents you from knocking the poptop off when you drive under height barriers.
