Whoever it is holds some strange ideas, wields a bunch of unsubstantiated inaccurate claims and is clearly just Marmite stirring. Not worth arguing with.

You've clearly come on here to try and stir up a political argument this is not the time to be doing it but as you have said you are not a fan of the current crop of political leaders I am and I make no apologies for this

This isn’t about politics right here and right now.

It will be in the future I hope, and might cure the cancerous slinging matches we’ve endured for the last few years in the political sphere.

But agree, right here and now, we all bleed the same colour blood.

  5. From the WHO:

    General Advice
Wearing a medical mask is one of the prevention measures to limit spread of certain respiratory diseases, including 2019-nCoV, in affected areas. However, the use of a mask alone is insufficient to provide the adequate level of protection and other equally relevant measures should be adopted. If masks are to be used, this measure must be combined with hand hygiene and other IPC measures to prevent the human-to-human transmission of 2019-nCov. WHO has developed guidance for home care and health care settings on infection prevention and control (IPC) strategies for use when infection with 2019-nCoV is suspected.Wearing medical masks when not indicated may cause unnecessary cost, procurement burden and create a false sense of security that can lead to neglecting other essential measures such as hand hygiene practices.

I guess it comes down to how you interpret this guidance. In the absence of any mass testing regime it's fair to assume that hundreds of thousands of people will be exposed to infection whether at work, working from home and adhering to restrictions on movement. A percentage will be asymptomatic or in the early stages of infection with very minor symptoms, given the long incubation period. Appropriate masks, correctly fitted, are proven to reduce transmission. Currently, the UK government does not recommend masks for the vast majority of the public. This is reserved for 'frontline' staff. Frontline staff have not been equipped with sufficient PPE (including masks), neither have those who work with vulnerable groups in social care.

In 2016 the government ran an exercise called Exercise Cygnus, involving all relevant agencies, to stress-test the system under a pandemic situation based on influenza. They found "gaping holes in Britain's emergency Preparedness Resillience and Response plan" Speaking about the report in July 2018, the then government chief scientific officer Prof Sir Ian Boyd who co authored the strategy stated that "a lack of resources was to blame"

In January 2020 Prof Joseph Wu from the School of Public Health in Hong Kong published his research in the Lancet based on the most up to date studies of the situation in China, stating that independent outbreaks of Covid 19 would be inevitable globally, in the absence of large scale public health interventions. He also stated that "Preparedness plans and mitigation interventions should be readied for quick deployment".

British officials took part in four meetings with the EU, the earliest being in January, concerning procurement of equipment including stocks of PPE. Britain declined to take part in the process and claimed at a later date that another invitation was sent to an out of date email address.

We still have insufficient PPE for 'frontline staff'. As for guidance on masks for members of the general public, I assume that Britain's take on WHO guidance paid particular heed to the line "may cause unnecessary cost, procurement burden"

If you still believe that the UK government's response was timely, adequate, apolitical and based on the most up-to date research, then that's your choice.

The medical officers covered this at the press conference yesterday and said that they are constantly reviewing their advice. We all get that you have a political slant here and I'm sure there are plenty of places that you could exercise that and have some wonderful conversations with like-minded people. Why don't you take your opinions somewhere more suitable?

I remember watching something about some war somewhere and people saying how the soldiers didn't have enough appropriate equipment, they interviewed a high ranking soldier dude, he said of course if we could give every single soldier a tank etc we would be its not to simple as that, off course there are economic considerations and logistical ones, just because everyone may need something doesn't make it possible, pointing the finger and saying its whoevers fault is counterproductive, there's a case where some American car apparently used to go up in flames for some reason or another( there's a film, pretty sure its based on some truth somewhere) anyway the accountant is put on the stand to testify as to why he recommended letting people die rather than recalling the vehicles, his answer was, " I just do the numbers, somebody else makes the decision" .Nobody can make an informed decision without as much information as possible, positive or negative, agree with it or not, it has to be a balanced decision which is justifiable , of course there's always gonna be someone who doesn't agree, but does than mean its the wrong decision ? things like corona etc are happening daily , thousands of decisions, life death, anyone who thinks a non fluid decision making process is best, shouldn't be in charge of making decisions.

men in black , a person is intelligent , the masses turn crazy

suppressing information isn't a bad thing when the information has no immediate benefit

It is sort of similar to when the airports got shut down a few years ago due to the snow. We were told that we didn’t have enough snow ploughs et cetera to clear the runways of our major airports. This was a disgrace “they” said. Unfortunately, this occurrence happens very rarely and can you imagine the indignation of “they” if we had 25 snowploughs per airport sitting around that only operated once every 10 to 15 years?

Rock and a hard place always comes to mind when I hear people moaning about things like this. We just have to do the best we can for everyone concerned. Shortages are always going to be a concern in any major crisis. Unfortunately I can see a lot of excess ppi knocking around hospitals when this is over and I guess people will moan about who’s paying for it.

Which bit of "not worth arguing with" is beyond your comprehension. Now be a good boy and crawl back to your hole and wait there. I'll tell you when you can come out.
If you're not getting the message, you're not welcome here. Go away.
